I just noticed my Malibu has the same leak ive seen ppl post on here. I have called GM and apparently not enough ppl have complained to trigger a recall. 4 years and I would have never noticed as I never sit in the back, but today as its pouring rain one of my friends noticed it. My roof interior and rear seat passenger have endured damage for who knows how long. Ive seen many posts on here with the same thing, its clearly factory/manufacturer responsibilty. Please call GM and complain and make sure to ask for your case number. I called and it took me less than 10 mins. They need to repair the issue and replace the upholstery that most likely now has mold. 800-222-1020

GM does have a program if it is the upper brake light (CHMSL) but the 2018 isn't included last I knew. GM won't be issuing a recall as it isn't a safety issue and not noticing your leak after 4-5 years isn't really their fault. Cars don't have infinite warranties. I had the leak from the loosening fasteners and a crack. GM took responsibility when it was their responsibility. Even though their design might have contributed to the crack I experienced later, it was out of warranty and my responsibility. If you are out of warranty, ask for help; if they won't, fix it.

I hope maybe GM makes an exception and cuts you a deal.

I have moved your discussion to the appropriate section. Good luck.

The person I spoke to said a recall was a possibility. I'm sure breathing mold isn't healthy and is absolutely a safety hazard. Thanks for the reply. Hoping something can be done.

The person is trying to make you feel better and move you along with hope. There won't be a recall. We are 8 model years into gen9 and the problem has been known since 2016. Near zero chance. Maybe if it would leak onto the amp and starts fire that knocks out the seat belt reminder chime... but that hasn't happened over 8 years.

Exactly why everyone should be complaining to GM about the issue. But you are right maybe nothing will be done but again doesn't hurt to try. I have to pay out of pocket regardless to get fixed.

People have been calling GM for years over it. We have several multi-page discussions running and it has happened outside the program many times. Surely can't hurt to call as they might help on a case by case basis. Fixing the leak (if it is the CHMSL) is cheap but cleaning the possible mold and wet trim is time consuming and can be expensive.

I hope you can dry it out and get it cleaned for a reasonable cost. Complaint posted, complaint heard, call to action posted, discussion closed.
