In the 2009 manual that I received with my 2LT on page 5-16 it has information on the 3.5L V6 engine and on page 5-18 is has information on the 3.6L V6 which I have, why is this the case? The only 2009 engine choice I recall was either the 2.4L L4 or 3.6L V6...was this a 2008 option? Thanks for any information.

I believe the 3.5L was for a lower model fleet car that just came with the larger engine

Yes, the 3.5L pushrod V6 is an entirely different, lower cost engine currently used largely in the Impala and G6, that for Malibu duty can only be had with a 1FL fleet ordered LS model, along with a 4-spd automatic.

Only LS's out there specifically ordered as such can be so equipped, otherwise if you have a 2LT V6 or LTZ V6, it's the 3.6L/6-spd only.

I love when people see LS on my trunk lid but then hear how the pushrod revs up and takes off :)

Single. It's basically impossible to tell the difference between it and a base LS, only give away is either punching the gas pedal or lifting the hood lol. It also does have some features the LS doesnt have such as its remote start and onstar ready, along with a few other things. I personally think it should have been badged as a LT.

Is the 3.5 compatible with the 6-spd ?

The GM 3500 V6 was never paired with a 6-speed transmission, so I'm going to say no. Can you add more context to your question?
sure thing I’m trying to put a 3.5 v6 from a 2009 Malibu into a 2012 with a 2.4 l4 but I was wondering if I can use the 6spd that is in the 2012 or do I have to use the 4spd that is currently attached to the V6

You need to use the 4-speed.

Are you mechanically inclined? Putting a totally different powertrain in the car is going to be a huge hassle. You'd be way better off just getting a replacement 2.4L. What's your situation, a blown engine?

The electronics needed to run the 2.4, the 3.5, and the 3.6 are different enough that it will take more than just mechanically attaching an engine to the transmission.

A number of threads have asked about swapping engines, and the trend on 100% of them is to either replace same with same or get a different car. Otherwise, the $$$ will prove to be way more than it's worth, and even if the parts were free, the effort will likely cause a GM engineer who's familiar with the vehicle to walk away.

We suggest that you reconsider getting "moar power" (add 3 Tim Taylor grunts here) for the sake of your sanity.
