So while I am totally happy with the power of the car for what it is. I mean low 6 second 60's and high 14's are great for what it is. I still want more power, being used to my other cars (not stock) V8. I haven't been able to do much of anything but Mobil 1, a drop in K&N and having a buddy tune a few minor things (removed limiter, made cooling fans come on sooner etc) via HP Tuners. There is no real cold air intake out there that I know of, which sucks and HP Tuners doesn't allow full A/F and timing tuning for the 3.6.

So I emailed Diablo Sport tuning who make the only decent handhelds.

"You guys have any plans on doing a handheld for the GM 3.6 VVT V6's like in the new Malibus and others?"

"This is something we are currently working on. That is the same motor in the V6 Camaro, which we have been testing with great success (check youtube channel for dyno videos). No release date as of yet, but it's coming."

Still a few months away, but great news. We can bump timing, fix the A/F ratios, firm up and change shifts (which might help alot of members), mess with the fans, limiters, etc. They usually are about $399. I told them I want one of the first ones.

Good work! I'm excited... even though I probably won't do it for fear of voiding my warranty.
Not really, I had my old Vette tuned, and my Camaro too and never had any issues. Hell, the Camaro had headers and they still did warranty work. All depends on the dealer.

Plus with a handheld, all you gotta do it toss the stock tune back in before you take it in, then put it back. Takes 15 minutes.

I know. That was the past. Changing the tune back to stock doesnt work either as GM can tell when its been changed. Anything other than the one that was updated by a dealer OR the one loaded in the building facility is a no go. Its been talked about like crazy on the camaro5.com forum.

Bottom line, GM will not warranty your drive train if you change the tune these days.

Like I have said, I have had no issues in the past. If you tune the factory tune, yes they can tell. If you pull the tune, and add a new one then swap it back, there is no way they can. The guys on Corvette forum do it all the time. Works like a charm.

And by the way, when I brought the car in for the transmission issues they fixed, the car had HP Tuners pulled, and they never knew either. My freind is a GM tech and verifeid this.

On a side note, there are guys on my Vette board who have swapped out ECU's and still gotten warranty work LOL. There is always away around the system no matter what. You just gotta know how to do it.

Bottom line is a handheld tuner won't do a thing to your warranty if used correctly. And if is 50 state certified and CAFE approved, GM HAS TO honor the waranty.

What years? Apparently it started with the new VVT motors and has made it through the lineup for 2010.

Also not true. Go read the warranty paperwork.

Fine then. I suggest you look up the info on the new PCMs. The tunes have an apparently timeline in it and when it differs from maintenance records or the date of in service, GM knows something has been changed.

GM knows what is going on and they are stopping it.

You also have to remember that is a Camaro, they are gonna watch that.

Whose gonna think a Malibu has a tune.:p

If something is CARB, CAFE, and 50 state certified unless it is PROVEN to have caused the issue they have to warranty the car by law. There is a guy on CorvetteForum.com who just won a case due to this exact issue.

I agree. Just passing along the info.

One mod put it like this. The cell phone water test paper. The phone can be dry and you turn it in for warranty and the paper is still purple.

That is different.

That is Magnusson-Ross Act. Not sure if its spelled right, though. lol

If you blow a hole through a piston because your A/F ratio was screwed up by you and they dont cover it because of your tune then you have nothing to crow about.

Agree, but if your tune was that bad to cause that you have other issues LOL.

A good tuner improves the tune. Most factory tunes are too rich. GOOD handhelds can do the same.
