I'm new and have a question.

Would it be worth it to put Flow Masters on the 98 Malibu I'm getting?
Also what would be a good sound system to put in it?

Okay what do you think would sound good in the trunk? Size wise I mean? I listen to a mixture of music so I want it to be loud but also pack a punch.
What about Rockford P1's?

Re: Question

Plugs and wires wont due anything, unless you haven't changed either over the last 13 years the cars been out. My first car was an 03 Grand Am, similar to your Malibu, I put just a Borla XL muffler on it and it really sounded good.

Okay what about a cold air intake would that be worth my time to put on?
Technically, the factory intake IS a CAI.

I mean, it sucks cold air in from under the front fender well.

I'd consider swapping the factory filter out for, say, a K&N if I was looking for a freer breathing intake. Just use the rectangular OEM-fit one.

Okay is that hard to do? I'm new.
Also is there a turbo or super charger system that will fit on my 3.1 V6?
What's the difference between the two?

In series -

1) Well, the reason to use the OEM-fit is so that it fits like the original filter. So it's a lot easier than redoing the current plumbing - just unlatch the air filter cover, lift it, pull out the paper one, install the clean and oiled K&N filter, and relatch the cover.

2) Dunno.

3) A supercharger is driven off the motor directly, by means of a belt (or chain for some designs), just like the alternator etc. A turbocharger is driven by the pressure of the exhaust gasses - they spin one side of a turbine, the other side sucks air in and pushes it into the intake.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Which is better in the long run tho? Or I should say which will give me more power but be more dependable? Also I was thinking about getting: Chevrolet Malibu Weapon R Dragon Air Intake - 807-158-101. Is this going to be hard to put in?

Between a supercharger and a turbocharger? They have different power curves, so it really depends on what you want to do with it.

i herd decent turbo systems actually increasing fuel economy, and sts sytems might solve both ur problems but like stated above there is pro's and cons and arguments all over the internet for both sides.. but its my understanding, superchargers will give you more off the line torque and power, where as a turbo needs to spool up to a required rpm band before it kicks in..... but in order to make the car really dependable and get the most out of them ither use a low psi safe for the stock engine or consider a rebuild for either application especially if the miliage is a little high
