AC not cold enough

It got up to 96 degrees here today. My wife and I were out for our Anniversary dinner. We had the AC on in the Malibu and it just seemed like it was not cold enough. With the fan on full blast and the recirculate on it didn't help. I have an 02 Cavalier with 140,000 miles on it, the AC has never been touched and it is way colder then the Malibu.

We hooked the car to set of gages and it seemed to have a full charge. The car just turned over 7000 miles. Anyone else seeing this problem?

What?....Its a brand new car. I should not have to do that. The people that are saying there Ac is fine....has it been 90+ degrees and 90%+humidity where you are at?
That's what I've had to do with all my brand new cars, my Grand Am, my LaCrosse, My Mazda, and I'm betting the Malibu as well. I'm guessing because there is not enough air flow.

Seriously though, if you're really that worried about it, take it to the dealer. That is what your warranty is for. There very well could be something wrong with your car. We're not mechanics, we're not trained professionals, we're just trying to throw ideas as to what may be going on.

Also, if you're bent out of shape because something went wrong on your brand new car, you shouldn't buy new ever again. I hate to tell you this, but things do go wrong, even on brand new cars.
I find the temperature isn't as cold when the HVAC system is set to draw from outside air and the vent setting isn't soley on the top vents (all the way over to the left).

Most of the time, I prefer to have my windows open, except when I am on the interstate or talking on the handsfree system. It's supposed to get up in the mid to upper 90's this week, so I will use the AC frequently.
I talked to the dealership today and apparently the temps that I was getting out of the vents, at idle in my driveway, where good. They have a chart that gives a vent output temp for a given outside air temp and humidity. I told them I was getting 65 degree air and he said that his chart showed that with the 96 degree temp and the high humidity we had on Friday that anything under 70 degrees coming out the vents was aceptable....:( he also said that since the Gov is cracking down more and more each year on pollution that at idle the compressor is designed to not pump as much refrigerant so that the engine is not using as much fuel to turn the comp. This helps the cars pass emissions testing.

As far as the statement above, I am bent out of shape because my new car which should have the latest and greatest of everything has warmer AC then my 2 older vehicles with over 100,000 miles on them.

The car is going to the dealer 9:30 Wed morning regardless...

If you can see if you can test the A/C on a new Malibu on the dealer lot, if its blowing the same you my need to drive your car naked. :)
It is around 97 today in Tulsa with high humidity. You sweat just standing outside. The car's AC isn't sort of cold when set to draw air from the outside. But if I switch it to re-circulate then it gets ice cold and thats city traffic driving.
Well I'll put a new wrinkle to this thread. Mine is doing the same with the same mileage and its the 3.6. What is different is mine will be fine one time and struggle at another. Not very consistant at all. 95* and a lot less humid.
Its going into Mr. Goodwrench. It should be cold PERIOD.
Maybe they did shave things and under sized the system. But in my case good then bad don't make sense

The AC compressor is run by the PCM. It is cycling the compressor on and off.

I have a friend that has a new Honda Civic that the AC was to warm. I guess enough people complained and when he took it in for service they reflashed the PCM to keep the compressor on longer, which made the AC cooler. Maybe thats what we need to do....
It was 93 with 50% relative humidity outside yesterday on the drive home. While the AC did take longer to cool the cabin, it was plenty cold by the time I got home.

On another note:

I turned the HVAC system on last night while moving and felt the car surge, which didn't feel right. Has anyone has this happen?
just be happy your car runs good.

people bitch about everything!

maybe you are just a hot guy (fat?)
LOL Zog....

The car surging is normal. It's just the A/C kicking in causing the car to bog breifly. Nothing to worry about.
you could always do it the old fassion way...pull out some r134a and put some nitrous in there. used to be able to put ice on my sisters windshield on her old car
Here in Houston it was 100 degrees & about 80% humidity yesterday. When in recirc mode I can't run my A/C on the coldest setting, because it is too cold. Even when stuck in traffic. I find myself using the seat heater just to warm up. BTW my car is Black Granite.

That's what I figured.
Hmm. This is one of the areas where I haven't been really all that impressed by my 08 LTZ. The auto-climate control seems to struggle a lot to get the inside temps down. But I've chalked it mostly up to the government-mandated sucky non-freon systems most cars have today. It's not so bad that you stay uncomfortable- it just runs much more often and at higher fan speeds than I've seen on many other vehicles.
We will find out today.....the car goes in the shop today at 9:30.

Well....now I am going to bitch about you. People like you think they can come onto these forums and be cute and funny while everyone else is trying to talk about serious isuses....so piss off!
Even fat people are entitled to cool controllable air in their vehicle.
Come on, let's be civil here. No need for name calling.
Im far from fat but Im a big guy. 6'6 and 220 lbs. I get pretty hot.
