My Malibu seems to have an intermittent noise that I think is coming from the a/c compressor when the car comes to a stop or is idling. It seems to be a woffiling sound (if that makes any sense) I noticed when the rpm drops below 1000 it seems to do it more. I only notice it from inside the vehicle and not when I pop the hood and the a/c compressor is running.

Not sure, just offering some input here. Try turning the fan speed to a different setting. If the fan is on high and the engine's idling and your foot is on the brake and the AC is on, there's gonna be a limited amount of power from the alternator. That can cause the fan to make an unusual noise (it's done it on older vehicles I've owned anyhow). I always just figured it was lower system voltage causing a higher current draw at the fan. Turning the fan down one or two speeds always cured it for me. Or tossing it in neutral and giving it a few RPMs.

Good ideas but no it's not any of those things. It is noticeable when the fan is on the lowest setting and the car is idling. It's going in the shop tomorrow morning so maybe ill let them take a look at it. I thought someone posted something similar but I couldn't find it.

I have the very same issue when AC is on and the fan at lowest speed. It's not the AC cycling but may be coming from there. I would say that the noise is chronic. Actually sounds like a quiet pigeon (ie. brrrrooo-ing) and cycles every couple of seconds. Definitely not the chirp of the compressor coming on though. I guess brrroooo-ing is about the same as woffiling ;)

That is the exact noise! brrrrrooooo or whrroooo. Also I think it does it more when it is humid outside. I took it in to the shop yesterday for other stuff and told them about it, the service writer said the mechanic drove it for 5 miles and could not duplicate the problem. Figures:rolleyes:

Anyone else having this noise coming from the engine compartment (just in front of the passenger-side firewall). For those of you who watched Battlestar Gallactica 20 hears ago, it kinda sounds like the sound of a Cylon's laser eye when it moves from left-to-right-to-left-to-right

Like I said before....like a pigeon brrrroo-ing. Check-out this funny youtube video of a kid that actually makes the same noise that my car makes intermittently (but not when it goes in for service:mad:):
