Whilst cleaning the throttle body, I noticed that on the other side of the air box, one of the joints in the air intake tube was loose.

Took the air box out and the joint apart, and a crumbly rubber ring came out. I can't quite figure out how it fits in there, but it's so rotten that I pulled it out and left it that way. I'll get a replacement if possible and then reinstall it.

It helps seal the first joint past the elbow that sticks out of the air box.

I have been using a real-time OBDII reader to monitor intake air temperature and wondering why the air coming in was reading about 20 degrees F above ambient, and rising with engine temperature, as if I had one of those little conical engine compartment Hot Air Intakes that the kids like.

After putting it back together, the intake air temperature stabilized, although still a bit higher than ambient, not as bad.

Replacing this sealing ring might make it even better, if I can find the part.

Heck, here in Kain-tuck we gots only 2 tools in our boxes: WD-40 and duct tape.

If it doesn't move but should, spray it with WD.

If it moves but shouldn't, use the tape.

Sounds like another use for duct tape, of all things! Tape the duct so the air it sucks in comes through the air filter instead of the joint. Heck, you can even get colored tape these days! What'll they think of next, red calipers?

You could search a junk yard for a new air intake. See if you can find one with a good seal. Or check ebay? I've also had luck finding replacement parts on amazon.com.

My last trip to the Pull-Yr-Part to get a camshaft sensor and PS pump, I checked the air intake of the donor vehicle and the ring on it looked exactly the same as mine, down to the orange paint and the break in a similar location (E9000'd back together in my photo).

I'm going to take "Red Caliper's" advice and tape it, but with aluminum tape rather than cloth duct tape.
