I was pretty much content with my white wheels, but was looking around on craigslist the other day trying to find a T5 (for one of the projects) when I found a set of G6 GTP wheels, mentioned in another thread. Well, I REALLY wanted to stay with 17's so I wouldn't have to buy new tires, but the wheels are just what I've been looking for, and the deal was way too good to pass up. They only have 16 miles on them... I picked them up on my way home tonight.

So, now I need to find some inexpensive tires. Discount Tire, I may be trying out your Bing 30% offer if it's still good. I've been reading that the GY LS2's are junk. So, I'm thinking about the Yokohama AVID TRZ (I think I got that right). Discount Tire has these for $111 a piece, which ain't too bad. Anyone got any opinions on these tires?

So, get my TPMS switched over, find a set of Bowtie caps, lugs nuts and tires, and I'll be ready to go...

Tint the windows, get the little trunk spoiler, a set of mud guards (I need them around here) and I should be good for a while...

thoughts?

They should look good on there. I agree, stay away from the LS2's they ride like crap and I cant wait to mine wear out! I had those wheels on my '07 GTP. Look great when the are clean.

closer, I have the Yokohama AVID TRZ's now on my car and love them. Though i have found that they need a little more tire pressure than the stock 30 psi, I run them at 38 psi for the fronts and 36 psi rear. Why such high tire pressure you ask? well i found a web page than you may find helpful on this subject. http://www.modified.com/tech/0208scc_tire_pressure_guide/index.html an engineer for BFGoodrich says using the weight of the car as a starting point for pressure and adding 2 psi to the heaviest end of the car (engine end) gives good results. Running at 30psi, even with the new tires made the car ride very soft. The 2lt with the v6, which i own, curb weight is around 3600 lbs. The i4's are around 3400 lbs. As far a the yokos performance, they are quiet and have much better grip than the LS2, have a 80,000 mile tread wear and come with a 60 day like them or return them for full refund deal, and they are about the same price as the LS2's. Like I said, i love them. (Oh, and the yoko's can be inflated to 50 psi max, so running in the upper 30's is well with in their safety zone.)

i can agree with Red Ryders opinion of the AVID TRZ's, i had them on my 98 Stratus i traded in for my malibu. Those TRZ's were night and day compared to the kelly tires i had on my stratus. i think they would be good for the mali also.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to look into Discount Tires "Bing" deal. If I can get that to work I'll probably go ahead and get them on order. Just need to find a good local place to install it all. Then the 17's will be going in the classifieds... and close will be a happy boy... :)

BTW, SilverLTZ, that was a sweet looking G6. Just curious though, were the wheels all painted? Most of the pix I can find appear to be solid gray, whereas mine are gray with machined faces on the spokes. I LOVE them!

The GTP ones like I had did have polished surfaces. The optional ones on the GT's did not have any polished surfaces.
