Well we all know how the malibu tends shift gear slowly so if you want to shift gears faster you have to them manually. So I am at the freeway on red light. Then when it turns green I start pressing the gas while on (M mode) and shift gears up until I am 70mph on 6th gear so I can be on RPM 2. Then I just shift the car back to automatic (D). Does that damage the transmission or anything on the vehicle?

Nope.

You can move from D to M at any time, stopped or moving. All it does is tell the computer who will be sending the signal to shift, you or the computer.

If you want the most performance from a standstill, put it in D. In manual mode the shifts are not like those $250,000 cars. Instead it's slow to get around to doing it. I can redline in 1st and 2nd if I'm not careful, but in D it'll redline only in 1st. M is more for holding a gear or selecting it when merging, etc., but it is not at all a performance enhancement.

Oh I see..
the only reason its bc I feel I can make it from 0-60 on M mode rather than in D without having to pass 3 on the RPM. Trying to mix performance with fuel efficient. So when I reach my desired speed I can just leave it on M but if something happens and I need to slow down IDK in what gear to be or how to down shift properly. I dont want to downshift too much where the RPM needle goes crazy..

It's still an automatic. If you want the most effecient mode, put it in D. It shifts based on a program that is more economy-minded than performance-minded.

Leaving it in M just locks the gear, except for one thing: if you slow below a certain speed in any gear it'll downshift to keep from lugging, but it won't upshift when you speed up.

I would have to agree with the previous posts when it comes to this concern. However, if you feel that something is just not quite right, I would would recommend contacting your local dealership for more information. The service department should be able to better assist you in how to go about shifting in terms of fuel effeciency. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
