Are there any AM radio listeners on here?
While I'm generally very pleased with the radio in my Malibu and its performance, I scratch my head a bit over the AM reception. It seems to be set up so that the audio bandwidth becomes more limited when the signal strength gets weaker, which means that instead of getting more static when going under a power line or through a weak signal area, the sound coming out of the speakers just becomes "muffled"-sounding. I certainly am in favor of reducing static, but I'm not sure the tradeoff in fidelity (which is pretty poor on AM to begin with) is worth it.
The good news is that I'm not a big AM listener, so it's not too much of an issue. However, I'd like the radio to perform better on those occasions when I switch over to catch the news, a ballgame, etc.
The FM and XM on my radio are both stellar. And I love the CD player (I have an LTZ, so I've got the changer. I've written before about how well it works). This AM thing has me wondering, however, whether this is the way the radio is designed, or if I have a problem.
