I am currently test driving an LTZ and am looking for some aftermarket stuff and am coming up pretty empty handed. Is there anything out there that ups the power; headers, programmer, intake...

Not interested in chrome accessories or HIDs or fart can noises.

Thanks

hahaha fart cans...

there r a couple of katz on here with a bit of exp. in performance modding the new malibus. but from what i've seen, there doesn't seem to be a WHOLE lot of stuff out there...mostly bolt on's like performance air filter or exhausts. there was a thread about chips sumwhere around here, but it looked mostly thumbs down. i thought about a chip for tha ride myself but now i don't really know. good luck tho:cool:

The CAI is for a Camaro, won't work.

As for the Jet stuff, it is pretty proven not to work. And in some cases do more harm then good.

My fingers are still crossed!

Just raced a stock malibu earlier today and smoked him about a full car length!

And also last week smoked a nissan altima 3.5 liter that had some mods!

But just like everyone say's there is no performance mod's out...Lol

Anyways just got to keep on waiting!

Wanna share what all you have done? I might give my own CAI a shot but I don't know what good it will do.

Be careful with that, if you have an open filter up top you will pull in alot of engine heat. A true CAI will be shielded from the heat, hence COLD air induction.
Thanks, I am pretty sure that I have a pretty strog background on how to mod a car properly. I am just curious if I can squeeze any more power out of this boat.

You might wanna contact Crab intakes. He usually caters towards the G6 crowd, but was supposted to make one for the Malibu too. I have been meaning to contact them myself. If you do post back!

Seriously what have you done to your car besides a cat back exhaust and a jet chip that makes it so much more bad ass then a stock car? I am really interested in this since you always claim to kill other Malibu's. Are you sure your not just racing the 2.4 Malibu's or that they are actually racing and not just making you look like a tool that likes to go all fast and furious on the street?

Honestly, there really isn't much more power you can squeeze out without building the motor for boost. Cars now are not like cars back in the day. They come pushing more power in a smaller package to save money.

I have a sneaking suspicion that an aftermarket intake for a G6 GTP or previous gen Malibu SS with either the 3.6 or 3.9 would fit on the 3.6 V6 Malibus. The layout under the hood is identical as far as I have been able to tell.

I've seen a few inexpensive GTP intakes on e-bay, may have to try it out.

I thought that, just wonder if the hood height is the same. Crab makes some nice G6 intakes that actually have a heat shield. I have not seen any on Ebay with a heat shield, have you?

Why the need for a heat shield if we can get a tube to angle down into that hole that the factory box runs into. I am thinking that an open style filter could live down below that hole, just need some time to see if that area is accessible for the filter and if I can find a way to get the MAF sensor in the same area. I have also be looking on the net for different muffler/ resonator setups that will sound good. It might take me a while but I have access to a muffler shop w/ lift. The urge to bend some pipe for intake and exhaust is starting to bug me.

Not long after I got mine I went to a muffler shop. I had them remove the huge anchor and save the chrome tips. Then he made a suggestion. We put on a Y-pipe and two resonators backwards, then the factory tips. I tried it first with both resonators in the normal direction, then one reversed, then both. Has a nice mellow sound, not the fart can sound. Just loud enough to hear it but not at all annoying on the freeway. Most of the sounds comes in between 2-3000 RPM.

Once you take off the factory muffler, look inside the inlet. They actually have the inlet on the side of the muffler case (huh???), and then it goes in and hits a deflector that makes it go both left and right. Doesn't seem too intelligent to bring it in on the weak skin instead of the stronger end caps, or to have it immediately run into a "wall" that forces it to turn 90 degrees in a short distance.

My new exhaust (over a year old now) weighs less and flows better (I'll bet), plus now I can hear the car when it's idling. I couldn't hear it before.

True if you go that route you should be okay, I always worry about water with a filter low like that though. So don't go too low. Let us know what you do!

That is just about what I was thinking last night. I was looking on Magnaflow's website and had pretty much settled on a 2.5" y-pipe with 2-45*s and using either the factory tips or getting some 4" Corsa clones. My wife thought I was crazy for laying in the driveway with a flashlight just looking and talking to myself! haha

I think a 3 chamber flowmaster (might) sound good with resonators after it but will have to try to play and see.

Please do not use exhaust pipe that is crush bend for an intake. If they have a mandrel bender which is very rare to come by then go for it but if not your just going to make it worse then stock :)

Honestly we've probably got more room under the hood than the G6 does.

I have not seen any intakes on e-bay with a heat shield... but I have seen some for as low as $50. I may just order one for testing purposes and if it fits drop some money on a nicer unit.
