I've seen Malibus with as little as 10k miles for sale. Even though they may have been occasionally abused a lot of the depreciation was avoided and the remaining of the bumper-to-bumper warranty applies.

I purchased my '06 Malibu Maxx in October of '06. It was a former Alamo rental car even though Carfax said it was clean with no rental service...LOL It has been a good car and the price was $2500 less than other cars in the local similarly equipped with 20-24 thousnad less miles.

My 09 LS was a prior rental. Bought it with 30k on the clock about a year ago for $11k even here in SoCal. Car is pristene condition, better than any of the other malibu's out there, not one scratch/dent...and $2k cheaper than the rest.

20k miles later and still not a problem, I love it. I would highly recommend buying used rentals as long as you check everything out before hand. I'm sure they're maintained better than most other malibu's for sale out there.

I looked at a few at auctions. My uncle has a car lot and could get me info on alot of cars at auctions. They were going for 2-3k under other cars, but they had about 30-35k miles on them for a 2009. I decided to go with one at a dealer just because it only had 12k miles. Also when we had a rental malibu, they made sure that there were no dents/scratches before pickup and after dropoff. My uncle said rental companies dont keep cars very long anyways. Truthfully, i wouldnt be afraid of buying a rental anymore, they seem to be just as good as new.

Mine was a hertz rental car. I bought it the beginning of this year with around 50K miles on it and it is an 09'. No regrets buying it, it runs and drives great and I am at 60K miles on it now.

Surprised they bought a LTZ as a fleet car. 99% of them are LS or maybe 1LT.
Yeah, it surprised me too. Both the RPO codes and carfax said the same thing of it being built as a rental. I was thinking though with the kind of miles it has and the condition it is in, that only a few people drove it during the rental period. At the enterprise rental behind my work has a LTZ suburban fully loaded as a rental which confused me.

When I helped move my sister from Kentucky to Washington in August this year, we took a scenic drive around Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho. I saw an LTZ pull up to the store and asked the guy how he liked it. He said it was a rental and liked it just fine. Curious!

Bought my '10 LTZ in August as an Avis rental....

Drove it from about this time last year (had 2064 miles at the time) until I decided to offer to buy it in late July when it had 20600 miles on it.
Called Avis and offered to buy it - AutoNation & a local Chevy dealer handled it from there.

Saved about $4k from a comparable used '10 LTZ on the lot. I have 23800 on the car at the moment.

I bough my 09 malibu ltz last week with 17500. Carfax listed it as a corporate fleet. The vehicle was delivered at the dealership new in Oct of 2009, it wasn't sold until March of 2010. I assume it was a salespersons vehicle, they drive for 6months and put 17500miles on it. I don't regret buying it, it is basically a brand new car minus the new car price. I did wonder why it sat at the dealership for 5months before it was sold though?

I bought my 2009 1LT from a Chevy dealer, but it came from an Enterprise Car Rental. It had 36k on it, and I bought it for $13,000. The book on it was $15,575.

So far I love it. The gas mileage is great. But I have found a few things wrong with it; a couple of the radio buttons don't work, the bluetooth was disabled, and the two window switches in the back don't work. Besides that, it's a great car!

All in all, I think I would buy a rental again, but would just make sure there was nothing wrong with it first, or if there was make the dealership pay to fix it.

The rear windows not working. If they work from the front but not the rear then take the driver's panel out, carefully release the little plastic clips that hold it all together, and check the solder joints. My '09 had a cold solder joint. All I had to do (after testing) was solder the two heavy connections and it started working again. They are the ones that connect the lock-out switch to the panel.

If they don't work from the front or back then you have a different issue.

I got my 2009 Malibu (prior rental) with 35,000 miles this may. As the sales man referred to it he said most rentals are crappy but this one is in excellent condition which is very true aside from a few very small cosmetic issues on the exterior it is a great car at a discounted price.

Mine was a state owned fleet car. I didn't care about having onstar or sirrus radio so I saved a few bucks buying it. I rack up about 25K miles a year so I didn't want anything to fancy or expensive. It's just my back and forth to work car 100+ miles every weekday. I'll run it till the wheels fall off and buy something else in 5 years.
