I really, really don't want to use an aftermarket head unit so I was looking at DSP's available. Anyone use one in their ride. I've heard good things and bad things but that doesn't matter to me a whole lot. It's going to be a hassle getting things installed with all the OEM stuff but I want that stock look inside the car.

Also anyone know how to hook up crossovers to the head unit. I'm no good with wiring or that department but I wanted to give it a shot before I give in to the professionals.

I haven't used them in this malibu but in other similar cars. I really like JL's but they're pretty expensive when you compare them to others. I'd look at a few comparison reviews. While not recommending a purchase from woofersect.com, they do offer a wide selection of mid to upper level DSPs so you can get a better feel for them.

If you're going for a smaller system, I feel like you could get away with a cheaper model. If it's cheap, don't get one with a lot of eq settings. Go simple. If going bigger, make sure you get the controls you need but don't over-complicate your options.


My personal plan is to use a good dsp/preamp to control everything at my dash to start. I'm pretty sure I'll have to use a aftermarket HU at one point but for now it all is very pretty and pristine. I only have wanted to kill it a few time so far.

I have looked at several other DSP's like the reQ from mtx and they do the same job pretty well for half the price. However I also hear that they burn out after maybe a year or so. I might just try to find a cleansweep on eBay or something.

I'm not going for anything huge right now. I have JL speakers that need installing but that's it. I dont even have an amp yet. I was hoping to avoid getting one but I'm sure the power from the OEM head unit won't be good enough. Later I want some subs but that's probably going to be in the summer or possibly later.
