I am a big fan of in-dash navigation units. I installed a factory unit in our 2007 Saturn Outlook. See this link to how I did it:

The radios look very similar, so I would think the Nav head unit would fit right in, and the GPS antenae could be placed like mine in the Outlook. Other than the possible need for a speed senor cable, why doesn't Chevy have a Nav unit in the Malibu? It's like they are leaving money on the table from buyers like me that would pay to have it.

Any word if the '09s will offer it?

They don't offer it for two reasons; one is that they offer turn by turn navigation via Onstar and radio display, the second being that this current Epsilon Platform has reached its capacity for electronics. I hear they are removing options like side turn signal markers and adjustable pedals so that they can add bluetooth capability for the 09 model.
