Need a quick simple answer what are the biggest size rim dimensions without rubbing and expected to perform well?

I've been upgrading my 2005 LS Malibu started with a cold air intake and exhaust next throttle body and performance chip, but this v6 is scary fast now and feels like I'm ice skating when car is pushed. White knuckle stuff. I'm going to put tires on next thing I do.
I'd like size and performance, but want no rubs what is the max dimensions

Not exactly on-topic, but to help you save some money, there is no such a thing as a 'performance chip' that is available. You will either need to find a product that actually modifies the ECM tuning parameters or run stock. The only thing that those 'performance' chips do is lie to the car to get it to pump more fuel into the engine. But they don't properly handle the whole process and can thereby result in damage later on.

Others should be along and comment on your rim size question.
