Bluetooth Pairing

I'm in the process of buying a bluetooth cell phone. My current cell is not bluetooth.

In any case, I was reading the instructions in the owner's manual and they mention that you have to do something with the cell phone itself during the pairing process. They say to refer to your cell phone manual in order to do this. What exactly has to be done with the cell phone to complete the pairing process?

It just involves turning on Bluetooth, getting the phone to recognize the car as a handsfree device, and punching in the PIN to complete the pairing. The Bluetooth menu is usually under setup, connections, depending on the phone and wireless carrier.

Thanks so much. The truth is I really like the Onstar Handsfree phone, but the minutes are just so expensive. That's why I want to use the Bluetooth feature. From the instructions I read in the Owner's Manual, it seems to work identical to the Onstar Handsfree except it will be at 1/3 the cost.

Just one additional question. When you want to make a phone call using bluetooth, which button do you press? I believe it's one of the buttons on the steering wheel, not the phone button on the rearview mirror. Do you have to say Bluetooth everytime you want to make a call?
I believe you press and hold mute button on the steering wheel and have to say bluetooth (I think?). I don't have Bluetooth in mine so not 100% sure.

I thought all LT2's had Bluetooth. Did they not have that feature in 2008?

Bluetooth didn't start until '09.

Yep :)() and upgrading to a VCIM with Bluetooth is way too expensive. Just glad I don't talk on the cell while driving as much as I used to.
Press and hold the Mute button. The car will say "Ready". You say "Bluetooth", and it says "Bluetooth ready." IF YOUR PHONE SUPPORTS IT, you say "Voice" and it says "Accessing (phone name that you assigned to it)." If it doesn't support that function BT will give you an error message.

My last phone was a Verizon LG VX8300. It was (is) a flip-open phone with camera, audio recorder, video recorder, and voice recognition. I've had it for nearly 4 years and finally upgraded to the HTC Eris Droid. Fantastic phone, but I can't use the "Voice" command to dial any numbers, but the LG would.

Alternately you can store names and numbers in the Bluetooth's on-board memory, but I have yet to find out how to list the names I've stored so I can manage them or delete them. When you say "Call" it will ask for the name and use the BT phone to dial them.
That's Verizon. They've been busy dumbing down its Bluetooth implementation across the board. With a Verizon phone, you are forced to maintain the car's phonebook. I'm not saying this is good or bad. It depends.

Works fine with both of my Razr's from Verizon.
Well, I've had the Droid for two weeks now and I have 30 days to take it back. I think I'm taking it back in and letting the salesman make it work or swap me up to one that does.

Or I can just go back to my old phone. (Not sure I'd like that too much, given the fact that I love all I can do with the Droid.)

I'm resigned to get that voice calling feature one way or another, and without having to touch my phone. Thanks for the comments, guys! They've been helpful.

Uh oh, my bad. It was getting late and I got the cars mixed up (spent a day helping a buddy). No, I don't think they've intended to get rid of the voice dialing from the Bluetooth handsfree devices. My beef with Verizon is the lack of OPP.
has anyone had issues pairing a blackberry bold 8330 to bt? i just got my car, and it wont recognize devices, but is bt equipped.. thoughts?

Blackberrys have the most problems with GM bluetooth. What happens when you start the scan for devices? Do you get an hour glass on the screen?
Can you make your IPod play through bluetooth?
Not on a stock 'Bu HU. It is for voice / phone only. An aftermarket HU might offer that feature, though.

Can't say that I have.

I've paired up a BB 8900 Curve, and recently, a BB 9800 Torch. Once paired they are bulletproof.

If you follow the instruction in the manual, you're good. The doc that Rodents just posted look like they could work through any glitch and get you up and running.

Just for giggles... have you tried pairing any other bluetooth-equipped phone with your 'bu?
Richard, if you have a 2013 Malibu it requires a phone with Bluetooth technology of 2.1 or higher. Make sure that you do not have the contacts in the sim card only as it will not work. You have to copy contacts from the SIM card to the phone and then pair your bluetooth to the car. If you push the steering wheel speak icon and after the beep say: call it will answer to give name from your phone contacts, say George for instance and it will say calling George etc. There are no charges. The onl;y charge you have is minutes off of your phone minutes. Charlie.
Last reply to this thread was about a year and a half ago and Richard has a Cruze now, cfritz1 ;)
Help...
I have a 2011 chevy malibu 2LT and I can not get the bluetooth feature to work. When I try to pair the phone all it does is say "Hello, Thank You, Goodbye" in that order and then hangs up. Tried it again same thing. Does anyone know how to get the bluetooth to actually pair? To have bluetooth just say ready without just saying "Hello, Thank You, Goodbye", is there a reset button or sequence for when this happens. I bought the car a couple months ago and it has never worked. It's always just said the same thing.
