I've aksed a smilar question in another thread but didn't get an answer, hopefully I will here. My daughter purchased a used 09 Malibu LT1 (8,00 on the clock) and it has the telephone button on the steering wheel, doesn't this mean that her car has bluetooth capability? The problem she is having that when we try to pair her phone, we push the button and the voice says "ready", then we say "bluetooth" like the manual says but the system does not recognize the word. The dealer is telling her her car does not have bluetooth, but why would she have the phone button on the steering wheel if she didn't. If she doesn't have bluetooth, is there something we can add to it to make it work?

I had the same issue. Your dealer is right, the car doesnt have bluetooth. And, No, you cant add it. The button on the steering wheel is there to mute the radio during a phone call, and to access the Onstar hands free calling service. Other than that, its just there for looks. It sucks - I wish I could add bluetooth, cause I want it bad!

It's for muting / onstar built in phone which is a prepaid phone

Well I"ll be damn, a salesman finally told the truth. Thanks for the answer guys, we've been going crazy trying to figure out how to make it work. I will let her know. Thanks again.

I have an 09 with the blue tooth and it is truly amazing.. I am now however in the same boat with my 07 escalade and there is a fix for them by adding VCIM module from an 09 escalade that then adds the blue tooth feature. So i would guess that if you added the module from a vehicle with the bluetooth it should theoretically work. With the caddys you loose the onstar feature but that is because they were never equipped with the bluetooth to begin with.. they are still working out the bugs.. but all have stated that the bluetooth works great except for the on star
