Since my Maxx SS is silver and black I had to modigy the bow tie. I ended up prying off the see thru cover, its held on with double side tape. I then removed the filler Bow tie as that is held onto the grill with more double sided tape. Using duct tape I removed the gold film from inside the clear cover so that it was completely clean. I had a white SS logo made up at he graphic shop and stuck it to the inside then painted gloss black over top of it. A little more double side tape and it was back together. Everyting is on the inside of the cover so it wont chip or peel due to the weather. My clear cover was golden in color don't know if that is from age or the may it was made by GM. anyway the SS shines thru great just not pure white

That is really nice!

I'm too scared to try that for fear of wrecking the emblem or the grill, or both!

I took it slow, about 15 mins to pull it off. small screw driver to pull the cover back, then held it open with a plastic wedge so I could slip a thin knife in behid to slice thru the sticky tape. your right though that first pull back was a bit of a heart stopper...lol

Did you also, or do you, plan to do the one on the trunk lid?

just have black vinyl over the rear one at the moment, cut to size by the graphic shop. I am going to pull it as well and see if I can do the same mod. that one is tagged into the rear accent strip but it looks like it is a molded one piece not a two piece like the grill

2006 maxx rear bow tie mod

since my mod to the front went so well I thought I would try the rear as well. did it the same way. popped off the bow tie using a small screw driver and some black tape to protect the paint from the leverage effect. used duct tape to remove the gold foil from inside the amber bowtie. peeled off the old two sided tape from the grey bow tie filler.. you do not have to remove the grey filler from the vehicle if you dont want to but do scrape off the old sticky tape and the gold film left behind. I painted the inside of the bow tie gloss black with plastic paint krylon I think. the gloss turns flatish when projected thru the amber bow tie. clean all parts with soap and water then reapply some double side tape and reassemble. put the grey filler inside the bow tie first then put the assembled piece back into the trim on the car. dry fit first to make sure you dont get it upside down. it fits but not as well. the end result is a factory looking finish all sealed from the weather. no ugly overspray,no masking lines, masking lines, no bad fitting decals.

since the front went so well I did the rear also, did not like the look of the ill fitting decal at all, went smoothe and easy .same procedure as the front. I posted some pics under the mod section again. didnt add the ss to the bowtie as it is already on the rear with the factory emblem. while I had my paint and tape out I blacked out one of my sets of centercaps . theese will go on my 2007 ltz 17" winter wheels
