Alright, so I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu 4 cylinder 2.4 engine. I am having an issue with the gas gauge. Sometime maybe a day or two after filling up, my gas gauge will drop down to empty and the light will turn on. Sometimes after filling up the gauge doesn’t go up. So I am having a problem with my gas gauge always dropping to empty when I know the tank is not empty. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had this problem before?

Thank You.

Given the age of the vehicle, it's probably the fuel level sensor. It's on top of the fuel tank and thus costly to replace in terms of labor. Try adding some fuel system cleaners like Techron to the tank to see if it'll clean up the contacts inside the sensor.
