I have a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and when i got home i pressed down on my parking brake and I heard a loud pop. The parking brake pedal now has no tension to it, when i press down, it'll just stay all the way down and no kinda back spring like normal, what could it be, and also is the car still safe to drive?

Welcome to the forum. The parking brake is strictly a mechanical linkage. When you press and lock the park brake pedal, it pulls on a cable which in turn pulls on two cables each of which actuates the parking brake mechanism on either side on the back. If the rear brakes don't seem to be locked up, it's safe to drive it. If they are, it's best to have it towed.

Does anyone know how to repair this cable? My 2005 has done the same thing and I am technical savy enough to fix it myself I just need a manual or direction on where to start.
