Looking at purchasing a used 2013 Chevrolet Malibu LT. 49,000 miles, Engine: 2.5L I4 DI,

What are some of the things to look for? Common issues?

Here's what I've seen so far:

On all used cars, take a long test drive on as many different road surfaces as possible. Take it to a trusted mechanic and obtain the alignment specs making sure that even if its "in alignment" - that the parts are in good shape, seals/joints good, rotor and specs etc.

Make sure all the infotainment features work; Pair your phone and make sure the speakers are not blown - play your favorite song from a USB drive.

Examine the service records, run the VIN through CarFax. Make sure that your car has had any recalls done to it and check to see if your car has had leaks on the front carpet area by doing the smell test.

If it's on the original battery, buy a new one. Download the manual, make sure every button works.

If you have more questions, PM the VIN to me and I will check out the recalls and possible extended "Service Promises" from GM for you. CPS

Why replace the original 3 year old battery?
I am somewhat jaded b/c both my Malibus (09 & 13) battery died at 41 and at 34 months.

The last battery episode lasted two weeks before the dealer replaced it under warranty. Prior to that I had to jump start it 3 times and it caused hours of frustration. It kept testing "fine" by 2 shops who honestly/shockingly didn't want to sell me a battery.

Lastly, the Frequently Asked Questions from the ACDelco warranty page:

"What is the warranty on the battery that came with my vehicle? It says that it has a 42 month no charge warranty. (Example: ACDelco Professional PG Series)
The battery that comes with a GM vehicle or is replaced under warranty is covered by the limited warranty of three years or 36,000 miles (48 months/4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, for Cadillac and Buick)"

Our two SUV (Equinox and Uplander) OEM batteries lasted 5 years and 7 years though. I was grateful that my replacement battery was free. I would have paid to get a better one, but wasn't given the option. My "new" battery is warranted for 36 months.

OP is getting their first BU, might as well eliminate the potential risk bad times etc and just be HAPPY....CPS
