Hello Everyone. I just bought a 2010 malibu LS a few days ago and really am enjoying this forum. I had a question for anyone that could help

I found some synthetic leather seats on ebay for 60$ front and back. The problem is that the rear of the covers are polyester or something like that. its the stretchy material on the cheap car seats. What I was thinking is for the front seats I could tuck the back under the plastic rear of the seat. Then the only part of the polyester that would really show would be the small 4-6 inch portion on the top of the back seat. So I was wondering has anyone ever removed the seat from the plastic part? I forgot to mention the seats do have air bag openings. Does anyone think by putting it under the plastic the polyester would interfere with the air bag blowing through the plastic and out the seat? Thanks in advance.

Other upgrades to be done in the next few weeks. Tint, Chrome gm wheel covers ($60 instead of hundreds for chrome rims) and the mesh chrome grill upgrade.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what to make of a set of seat covers that costs only $60. Are you trying to protect the seats or improve them? How about some pictures if you've already got them. Not saying anything, just mild curiosity.

Just interested, why do you want to put seat covers over brand new seats? I sat in an LT1 which I believe has the same seats as the LS and the seats were very comfortable. And that material won't get extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Are you worried about them getting dirty. You can have them scotch guarded if that's the case.

I agree with the Chrome Wheel look - I have them on the LT2, but it's not a wheel cover, it's an aluminum wheel. They look nice. Does the LS have wheel covers that can be pryed off and replaced with the Chrome Wheel Covers? I didn't think so, but not sure.

Lot's of luck with your new car.

Here's a picture of the Chrome Wheel from my car.

I like those rims. The covers are held on by lug cover bolts. So they are easily removed and replaced. The seats I saw are the look of these but synthetic leather. Im so used to leather and thats the only option i couldnt afford on the new car. There is a company that sells custom covers for 600$ but that will have to wait a while.

I really like the chrome caps. They have the same look as the LT2 Chrome Aluminum Wheels, but the lugs are black whereas mine are chrome. I believe this is the standard cap on the LT1. I think this would be a good upgrade. Chrome looks really nice on the Malibu.

But I'm not sure about the seat covers. I thought the seats on the LS were very comfortable, almost like a brushed velour. I had leather seats on almost all my previous cars and now I have the Ultralux which is a suede type material. I appreciate the change. Change is good.

Also, the seat covers you described are a synthetic leather. They will probably get really hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Seat covers are generally used for an older car where the seats are worn. Just can't see covering brand new seats with covers, but it's your choice.

In any case, the Malibu is a great car and I'm sure you will be very happy with it.

I would be worried about the side-impact airbags too - There's no "Breakaway" in those covers for the airbag, and it would most certainly cause some kind of deployment issue if you were in a collision where those bags were activated.

If you save do plan to save up -- I like my Wet Okole ones though they only have a pattern for the front. And they don't get hot in the summer like the more plasticy ones.

I had cheap ones like that, and a seat heater/cooler add on in my last car and all wound up beat up in the end, thrown away, and ugly from the get go.

I say save the $$ for now. IMO

60$, likely universal covers. i.e. would look like crap. Model specific covers are a lot more.

Its been a while since I have been on here. about 4000 miles and 8500$ in collision damage later:(:confused:. Do you have any pictures of your seats? Also if you post them what site did you buy them from? I am looking for some seat covers to help balance out the high lips on the sides of the bottoms of the seats. after a thousand plus miles in a week of driving i noticed how much they dig into my legs.

If you want leather seats, you should just save the $60 and save for something better. I recently looked on eBay for Malibu leather seat covers and a seller has a set of Pecca Leather Seat Covers (same factory leather used in Bentlys and Jaguars) for a good price.

$285 is a steal for leather if you ask me, plus this leather will look factory. Just my $.02
