I live in manitoba, canada and I have a 2018 chevy malibu with 105000kms. My car has now been in the shop for the charged air cooler freezing up and collecting moisture 5 times now which throws an error code and reduces your cars enegine power(which i feel is unsafe driving around with 2 very young kids in the car), there are 3 bulletins on this issue that were completed on my car the 3rd time it was at the dealer and clearly the bulletins gm has posted as solutions for this issue does not actually fix the issue. Ive been in contact with GM Canada and they said all they can do is what those bulletins say to do, which again obviously doesnt fix the issue. They called me today offering me a 250$ dollar gift card to be spent at gm and 2 free oil changes but not to actually fix the problem. Just curious if other people found a solution for this issue or got better offers from gm canada? I feel this should be an automatic recall as this issue has been going on since 2016 and and feel the cars should be deemed unsafe to drive.

The charge air cooler replacements do nothing other than eliminate the acute problem. If you are in a climate and have a driving pattern that causes freeze up it will just freeze up again. There is a cover they install but it's cumbersome and hasn't helped some. Currently, they have it traced to the Turbocharger Wastegate Regulator Solenoid Valve (thermal wrap or replacement) and ECM programming on the 2018. The new program keeps shutters closed under a certain temp. Have you had those done?

Probably won't see a recall since so few cars experience the issue. It's a very specific environment and driving pattern that induces the issue and doesn't endanger anyone's safety.

Do you have the winter cover on the cooler that is listed in one of the service bulletins? Curious as you're in the north.
