recently the chrome trim on the outer topside of my back passenger window started lifting. what would be the best thing for me to use to stick it back into place? i was gonna try to do it myself before chancing taking it to the dealer and end up paying a stupid price for something that could be a cheap easy fix. im having trouble looking for a video online about the topic. maybe because im not calling it the exact right thing. but im not sure.

I have the same thing. Dealer quoted like $250 for the part because it was for the entire windows trim. They could not just replace the chrome trim. All in all it was like 400-500 so I said F that. It has happened to a lot of people so its clearly a design flaw, which sucks for us. I use a couple pieces of this cut to size. I clean where I am going to apply the tape with alcohol or something like that first and let it dry so that the repair will hold for longer. It works for like 6 months on average and you have to repeat it. But its better than that thing annoyingly pulling every time you open the passenger door.

i was thinking in getting something like that or an adhesive of some sort to just stick it back in place. lol, figures the dealer would charge for the whole piece instead of just being able to put that section back. i’ll check into the tape. thanks!

A suggestion would be to consider rubber cement.

It's applied to both pieces you wish to stick together and allowed to dry until it's tacky. When you press them together, and you get only 1 attempt, they are supposed to stay.

I don't know if they make rubber cement that stands up to exterior use, but I'll bet they do, seeing as how 3M has exterior-grade stuff that keeps things in place. I'm using some right now on the 3 sensors for an aftermarket backup alert system and they have never come loose in 6 years of being on the car.

That's another idea. 3M peel-and-stick tape comes in rolls and at least 2 thicknesses. Getting the thinnest possible and then using enough to hold a large portion of the chrome could possibly hold it on for good.

Did it work? I have the same thing but the whole thing popped off. Do I need some sort of screws or clips before using the glue? I drive a 2015 Chevy Malibu.

I used that adhesive above and taped the trim with clear gorilla tape. Has held for a while now.

I had the same problem about 5 months ago and used some gorilla glue on both sides. I used too much and it expanded out but used a knife and carefully cut out the extra. So far its holding up and hasn't came out again. If it does I will probably glue it down again. I'm not spending $400 on something that has cheap plastic clips that will probably break again.

I never went anywhere I just looked up the piece online and it just came with the whole door trim and it was like 300 or so. For a piece of plastic with really cheap looking clips I figured I'd pass.

We're having this problem now. I've applied a two-part Gorilla Glue epoxy between the door and silver trim and placed two clamps to allow it to cure. It's bewildering that there could be this type of design flaw. I'll update on how well it works/how long it lasts.
