I think they send away to have the keys made with the transponder don't they? I remember it took about a week to get my spare one. Those designs are great, my Speed3 has one. As long as the key can be cut it SHOULD work. But it might have a transponder in it.
I definitely will. Ill give a call to the dealer tomorrow and let you know. I would try myself I'm just not very electronically inclined =PI think you need to try it, and let us know. I wouldn't mind having one myself. Especially since that one shows the remote start button.![]()
Is there any added benefit to having one of them vs what they gave me in 09? Added benefit meaning operating distance from the vehicle etc. that anyone is aware of or is it GP?I definitely will. Ill give a call to the dealer tomorrow and let you know. I would try myself I'm just not very electronically inclined =P
You could change that, that is if you wanted to dedicate the effort to do it, here is a link to DrivenDaily's write up on how to remote express the windows up/down using the remote:That would be great! My last car had one like this... I miss the windows closing automatically when the car is locked too
(I always forget to close the windows manually and have to go back, enter the car again to close it! hehehehe)
I saw that the key was quite a bit thicker too. At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, even though it's a little different and thicker, couldn't it be cut down to size?I was at my dealer today and happened to sit inside a Cruze. The key was in the center console. I looked at it. The key uses the German-type blank that has a duplicate path cut in it on both flat sides, kinda like if you'd imagine the trail of a bug. It doesn't have the peaks and valleys of the Malibu double-cut key. And the actual metal of the blank is much thicker than ours, so unless they make a "standard" blank instead of the German one it's not likely gonna be available for our cars.
