How many members here would like to buy a custom made cold air intake?
I know of a company that can make it possible for us! He is highly respected and has produced many high performance products for the Dodge Viper SRT-10 truck and Dodge neon SRT turbo! I contacted him to see if he can produce something for our car and he said he would be glad to the only thing is he would need a car to work from to get measurements and such. His shop is located in Festus, Missouri. I told him I would be glad to offer my ride but I live in Arizona! Lol Is there anyone around that area that is willing to do it? Serious inquiries only!

I'd be serious enough to take the 6 hour drive from Chicago if the fitting came with a complimentary intake -- or something along those lines to offset the gas and maybe even hotel! costs :p. Hopefully there is someone in St. Louis that could do it though...

Also, I have the I-4 engine just as an FYI. I would be interested though, and willing provided he checks out reputable, has experience enough to not throw codes, and we all would want an I-4 as the candidate not the V-6

Thanks for investigating regardless JRams

I'm sure he would work something out for the one that is willing to have the prototype!

Let me be clear he will do the honor and tackle the 3.6lt V-6 first! I'm sure once he has done that we can get him to do the 4 cylinder. Unless there is not enough people that would want this in the first place than I wouldn't want to waste his time and we would all be waiting for along time for something like this to come our way again! And please make no mistake this guy knows what he is doing! Again anyone around that area would be ideal!

I'm about 300 miles away and have a 3.6 V6. I'd be interested. To have mine to use as a pattern all I'd need is a room to crash in overnight x2 (get there Friday night, stay Saturday night) and a working version of it to go home with (or to be sent later). It would cost me about 600 miles of gas (let's see, 600 / ~30 mpg = 20 gals x $3 / gal = ~$60) and the time to run out there and back. I'm also pretty handy with mods so I could either help, or watch and learn to add to my repertoire. I have a camera and could get detailed pics to help with a how-to, also.

Ask him for me, please.

Am 100 miles away from Festus and I have a 3.6 V6, but the only day that I can go there is on Saturday and I have to go back in the same day, if he can do it, I'll be there by Saturday morning.

I sent an email to him. Thanks for the link! It'd be nice to know that someone's working on getting a CAI for us and that it would be available. I'll let you know what he says, whether he's for it or not.

(DrivenDaily) He is willing and able! It's really up to whoever wants to be the one to go down there and have him produce the first one! Because once he builds the first one it will be easy for all of us to get one!

Good news to hear! Should I wait for his email response or send another? This weekend I'm busy editing the nearly 1000 images taken at the arrival of Miss World to Louisville. But next weekend I'm pretty sure I can get away.

Same here!

I'd recently found a cold air intake seller for '10 Malibu I-4 engines on eBay, and I was checking out the forum for feedback when I found this thread.

My biggest concern is what impact installing the intake may have on my warranty. I've got 13k/just under two years left, and I don't want Mista Goodwrench flipping the bird when the tech finds it under the hood.

Here's the URL (and Admins, I hope this doesn't violate forum rules - no harm intended):

Comments, anyone?

From the pics, it looks pretty decent actually.

It says "12-15 hp gain on most CAI installs." On the I4 I doubt it brings that much to the table but there's probably an increase nonetheless.

It looks good. Looks like they cut the stock engine cover and replaced it to the airbox with polished tubing. It might even replace the airbox with a K&N cone filter down in the fender well.

soooo the big question.....will it void the powertrain warranty? because my bumper to bumper is gone in 2,000 miles.

I've had warranty work done on trucks with K&N intakes before. What the service tech has always told me is that you can't be denied warranty work if the aftermarket part has nothing to do with the damaged part/s.

Example: tranny takes a dump, all you have on the car that is not OEM is an intake. It would be very hard to put the installation/use of the intake directly at fault for the damage of the tranny.

But if you get a CEL and its a bad sensor in the engine compartment, then it would be very easy for them to put an intake at fault. They would deny warranty work, make a note of it in the system, and then send you on your way.

I agree on the pony boost - that's a wee bit ambitious. Now, 8-9 HP, that's feasible with an entire CAI kit. They also did a decent job on the sensor location. Some other CAIs I've seen (my son has one on his Mazda 6, just cleaned the filter yesterday) look like pure backyard mechanic patch-em-up.

I looked at the rest of the auctions that this fellow is running for his CAIs - this seems to be the only CAI he's selling that includes the K&N cone filter, and also his 'road test' results.

I did some more checking on the 'net about the seller - I found this video of a similar install on Youtube for a Ford Edge - gives a much better picture of the quality of the equipment.

Ummmm - I'm still thinking about it.
