Dark Gray LTZ + Cocoa/Cashmere?

7882 Views 17 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  beach
Hello All,

This thread is based off my New Member Intro thread. I have a 2008 Dark Gray Metallic LTZ with the Cocoa Cashmere interior. I bought it it late June from my local Chevy dealer at a pretty good discount. It had 9500 miles on it and was driven by a GM Exec (or so they told me)

Another member said that this color combination (Dark Gray Metallic and the Cocao/Cashmere) didn't and still doesn't exist. I don't have my brochure with me right now to double check but does anyone have any insight into this.

As we're getting about 8 inches of snow today, I don't feel like going out, cleaning 'er up and taking some pictures but rest assured I will put some pictures up once I can see the grass in my front yard...

Why not take pictures while it's snowing outside with your new Malibu? It would be nice to see.
I would but she's pretty dirty. I wouldn't be doing 'er any justice. Plus, I haven't shoveled the driveway yet and driving on that nice 6" of snow we have now wouldn't be al that great. Maybe once I'm done shoveling, I'll grace you all with my Malibu's pictures...
LOL! I wish there was a bunch of snow here, I'd be out there finding a cool spot to take pictures of my dirty 2000 LS just to let others know mine is driven all the time. Oh since someone else said your color and interior combination wasn't in the brochure and you've now said a GM Exec had this then I bet the Exec wanted to have that combination instead.
Yeah, it's not a color combo that was ever offered...BUT as you see in your driveway as does another member here, a couple were produced for whatever reason.

When was your build date? Do you have the window sticker for the car? Just curious, for info, to see if there's anything special in regards to this or it was treated as any other combo.
I think I was the 'other member' you're referring to who has one. I sort of have two threads on this going. This combo issue was brought up in my Welcome to the Thread/Newbie section. I figure I better start a new thread so people actually read it.

I don't have my window sticker, I can't imagine I tossed it. Is there a way I can tell by vin numbers? I know Ford usually puts their build dates on a sticker behind the glove box.

There is a sticker inside the door, on the driver side, down low.
It will show the month and year your car was built.
oh get over yourself. It took effort to post that lame picture than to just hit the back button and move on.
odd that they didn't keep that color combo... probably one of the better ones out there...

The build date on the sticker says 10/07. Is this pretty early in production?

Unless GM has changed the month that is considered the start of the new year for their models, then 09/07 would be the begining of the 08 model year. Most of the manufacturers follow this and usually release the next year models in September.
That really is one of the very first to have come off the line then. While the rest of the GM line started the 2008 run in early to mid summer 2007, production on the Malibu started a bit later, in October I believe, of 2007 so your Dark Gray-Cocoa oddball was a bit of an early experiment in some way. Being that it was never on an officially offered list, that's all I can assume. Or maybe it was offered but only for a few days, the couple were built, and then no more.

It looks great either way. If you don't want the "whoa" of brick/black with your very classy Dark Gray, this should have always been an offering. Very upscale.
Yeah, I personally think this is one of the nicer combinations out there for the Malibu. Being a baseball card collector as well, I like knowing print runs of cards so my Malibu got me wondering the production run of mine. I wonder if there's a way I could contact Chevy and get the skinny on the 'bu.

Someone, even just on a forum with a GM connection, should know. I really don't think the combo was ever on the books as being offered, but somehow yours and at least a couple others are out there.

Actually, I just pulled up the GM order guide for the '08 Malibu and specifically the "Distribution Updates" section where any and every little revision made in a model year is posted by date, and the only changes listed relating to color are:

Week of 2/4/2008
Color and Trim section-(40U) White, changed symbol under (34*) Cocoa/Cashmere to "A".

Week of 4/28/2008
Color and Trim section-(15U) Sandstone Metallic, added a new footnote 2 that reads "No longer available for ordering as of 4/30/2008."

The first one, in February, was a change after initially White only had Brick/Black available on LTZ's, for instance--and the 2008 brochures are printed as such, I think. Similar to the Dark Gray/Cocoa cars here, albeit no record for them I've seen anywhere.
