Re: Does someone did this mod ?

Uhm, a little misleading on the speedo, until you look and see that those are KPH, not MPH. But still, a 5-speed Getrag in a Malibu? Sounds nice, looks good for what little I can see. Now he just needs to put a shield around that air filter and get air from outside the hot engine bay. Still, pretty decent job, 'cuz it looks like it runs and runs well.

Yeah i'm suprised too that this transmission can works with V6 engine(a little bit more torq than the original first generation of ecotec engines !)

What in name of that transmission?!? MUST HAVE IT ON MY CAR!! I am planning to do top swap on my motor and i want to have manual too! I love the feeling of manual power! If anyone knows the full details of how to do top swap and manual transmission swap... (including pedal work too) then let me know! (i also want to turbo it up! No ifs, ands, or buts!)

This is simple: quote from the owner: "not that hard .. just have to weld support on the frame and know the correct part (like the axles, shifter, clutch pedal comes from a 2001 alero 2.4 but the tranny itself from a cavalier 2200SFI)"

Shifter, if you look, the malibu a/t shifter and the 95-04 cavalier is exactly the same, so the manual shifter should also fit ;)

secondo: cavalier pedals also are the same...
third: it's the transmission who came with the 2.4 engine(not sure if is the same for the ecotec engine) (alero, cavalier).

forth: as you can see, he did a battery relocation, (maybe in the truck like cars as the chysler 300 ?)

a few questions leaves, did he do an PCM reprogrammation (to ignore the a/t data). BTW yeah, 3400 with manual transmission should be more interesting than stock 3100 vin M with a/t :D

I did Battery relocation to the trunk so it's no problem....
I actually was debating on either turbocharger or Supercharger and i decided to go with supercharger since it's more efficient and requires no heat to spool... I think MT transmission would go GREAT with that.... I can find cavalier easily!! I have a main man who owns like 5 of them!! I can ask him if he can help me with transmission!!! does it matter which year on that 2.4 engine cavalier? I think I can get shifter and pedal easily off from him as well... THANKS! (Well i dunno that he said that in the video.... I am deaf so i can't hear what he said!! so thanks!! :) )

lol no he didn't tell in the video, i saw this infos from another forum ;) Humm the only question who lives is "do this tranny will support the power and torq from an S/C engine?" don't forget that is basicly a 4 cyl tranny...

if you realy want to swap an M/T with S/C engine, i know that some ppl already done with old versions of cavaliers Z24(1988 to 1994), originaly the car came with getrag transmission and seems to work fine with 3400/3800 engines...

Oh alright... well i would like to be able to turn my malibu into manual transmission... and be able to have up to 750 hp... (with procharger) and well i would like to know exactly which manual transmission that could tolerate that much power... I just want to have really great acceleration, power, and all of that.. If you know exactly transmission that would easily fit in my motor and easily handle that much power.... I would love to know!

Hello, first, i'm very sorry to revive a dead post, second, i am the owner of this car (if you want proof, no problem at all hehehe) and to answer your questions about the transmission holding the torque .. i'm now turbo at 8psi daily and the transmission is holding very good, even if the first shaft bearing is making some noise (the transmission was defective when i bought it) and i'm not gentle at all with the pedals :)

I'll be posting my how-to as i did on the dead forum malibuclub.ca

Well .. you don't want 750 hp .. i have about 350hp (estimated engine hp) and my first gear is absolutely burning my tires and it still break lose in 2nd gear EVEN with a LSD diff.. which mean with 750hp (unless you have like 500torque) the only gear with traction will be 5th

STILL if you want to try it, i suggest G6 6speed (getrag F40) but the transmission will be only one of many worries you will have with more that 500hp
