DRL Question...

10101 Views 17 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  DrivenDaily
I have a 2010 1LT Malibu and I have noticed that the car is equipped with daytime running lights, I think this is a novel idea but I was wondering if it is possible and if so how to switch the DRL duty from the low beams to the high beams like the Toyota/Lexus/Honda/Acura vehicles have, the reason I want to do this is because I want to prolong the life of my HID low beams by not having them on all the time and divert that task to the high beams because I never use them. Currently I have disabled the drl's by pulling the fuse but I want to reinstate them as the high beams because I like the look of it an the idea of having daytime running lights. So is it possible to divert the drl duty from the low beams to the high beams and if so how?
Thanks

Wow thanks!!! I do agree with using the turn signal filliments instead of the high beams now that you mention it, and I have also noticed the greater contrast from the concrete to the lights when they are amber instead of white, so basically, I just have to find the purple wire coming from the fuse box and rewire to tap into the turn signals on the front, and then use your (DrivenDaily) circuit to maintain the functionality of the turn signals and parking lights? As you can tell I have little experiance in electrical work, so please excuse my lack of knowledge when it comes to the subject. Haha.
Thanks

Wow thanks!! Thanks for devoting your time to creating such a great write up! I really appreciate it!! So after I create the extension of the drl wire like you did I use it in your last step I wire it to your circuit "creation" and then connect all the wires coming off your module to the turn signal and parking light wires, correct? I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the topic and appreciate your time and effort on helping me understand.
Great thanks for the write up! So just to verify, there is a dark blue and light blue wire at each turn signal bulb that I can access from the wire harness that powers the entire headlight assembly (on that side) and then cut both of those wires and connect then repeat the cutting and connecting of the dark and light blue wires on the other turn signal wire harness assembly on the other side of the car
Thank you for being patient with me and explaining it so simply, I apologize if I made you frustrated with my "slowness" when it comes to electrical work, but I fully understand what you mean now, I will pm prob on Monday because I am interested in purchasing one of your DRL circuitry devices. Thank you for all of your time and patience, I will pm you on Monday to work out the details.
