Maybe it's just me, but the last several cars I've owned the engine coolant guage on the dashboard has always been dead center between cool and hot. On my new Malibu it's about 1/3 below the midpoint all the time -- even after long drives. Is this normal?

I guess I would expect it to be right in the middle.

Mine runs a bit below the middle too so based on a sample of two, it's normal.

It all depends on where they want it to sit. Although there are no temp indicators on the gauge the gauge is measuring temp. The full sweep of the temp reading may be larger than the allowed operating temps for the engine. Thus there is no reason to have it centered.
