Hey guys,
i have the gen 7 08 malibu and i am looking to have a custom exhaust done on it at a recommended shop in lincoln, ne. i went into the shop today and they said they have never worked on the new generation malibu and are not sure what they could do for it and what types of muffler/exhaust setups to use in order to have HP and sound improvements without causing any problems or loss in power.

ive done some research and found know tmajik86 has used magnaflow and jramsltz has used flowmaster...
i just want the new exhaust to start right after the headers.
if anyone could tell me specifically what setup works so i can relay it to the shop i am going to so they can copy it knowing there will be improvements. if anyone has a photo that could probably help alot as well.

thanks and i appreciate any help,
Frank

DO NOT USE FLowmaster with a GM car. Flowmaster works great with trucks, especially Ford trucks, but Magnaflow seems to work better on GM and most cars.

I would seriously think twice. All the exhausts I have heard on the 3.6 and 2.4 do not sound good at all. I don't know, to me unless you have 8 cylinders it shouldn't be loud since it is so hard to get a 4 or 6 banger to sound good. I will admit the Magnaflow cat-back on the 3.6 didn't sound bad though....

I have heard many things regarding exhaust in the Malibu, anyone claiming to have a magnaflow has has one custom built as they do not make the part yet. The part # is 16506 for the 3.6L however it has been reported to be in the engineering phase so 8-10 weeks is the norm. time to wait, so I'm told from magnaflow. I have looked at the caddy 3.6l as well as the camero, it seems from the headers back your looking $1000+ to 1700 I would expect for the malibu. One might also consider going from the cats back. ? I've pondered the idea I have a local shop that has quoted me @ 852$ for the cats back and removing the resonator. This custom system would be polished SS.

Do you know what model number those are? Can you snap a few pics up underneath? I'm gonna dump my stock muffler this Spring and yours sounded nice and mellow. Even better than my '09 with twin resonators.

im thinking of setting up my 08 malibu 4cyl with a dynomax muffler and dual exhaust. i usually go with magnaflow for all my vehicles that i have owned but i just want it to stay quiet and have the dual exhaust look so dynomax should work for me. but everyone is entitled to their opinion as we all have different tastes. one would say its too loud while another would say its just right...good luck and keep us informed of the route you choose
