I just bought my 2009 Malibu LTZ 3 days ago and I am very excited to be the owner of a Malibu. Unfortunately the rear speakers are blown. I have replaced many car audio systems in my lifetime so I thought it would be no big deal. At the time, I didn't know about the complications of a new car with a premium audio system. I could just replace the speakers. I found them online for about $40 each at gmpartsdirect. I would much rather spend the money on some Infinity Kappas instead but I worry that the speakers have four incoming wires instead of the typical two. I don't want to bypass the amp if I install new rear speakers because I think it would be difficult to find an amp to install in that little bracket. Additionally, I wanted to put an Aftermarket headunit in but I am afraid of losing my steering wheel controls and losing the boost from the amplifier. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing the car is past 36K? If not the dealer will replace them. Since you have an LTZ they have "subs" in them. So if you replace them with regular 6x9's you will loose some bass unless you add a sub.

We have the Gen7 (2008+). There are a number of threads on here about doing it. You'll see posts about retaining the steering wheel controls, as well as the chimes and turn signal clicker.

Go to the black/dark gray bar at the top and use Search. You'll come across some info you can use. Then you can post questions for the member(s) and possibly get some additional info.

Plus, if you scroll to the bottom of this window you'll see a section entitled "Similar Threads" that can get you started quickly.

Hope ya stick around. We're the best forum on the 'net regarding Malibus, and keep getting better.
