As I got in my '08 Malibu this morning, I turned the fan on to adjust the cabin temperature and nothing happened. Settings 1 - 4 did not produce any air pressure. Hopefully this is just fuse related. Any ideas where to check? I really don't want to hassle with a dealer if it's just fuse related.

The car is a 2LT V6 with manual thermostat controls.

There is a fuse area located under the center console, accessed by removing a panel on the left hand side of the passenger foot well area. Check there maybe it is just a fuse and will be an easy fix.

Thanks for the tip, however, all the HVAC fuses seem fine. There was a big black HVAC fuse, which I have no clue how to check. Looks like I'll be taking to the dealer tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. My '05 Envoy just lost fan settings 1, 2 and 3 a month ago and that is fixed by replacing a relay. I assume this will be the same.

There are 2 relays and 3 fuses that allow the blower motor to operate. The obvious ones are the HVAC BLOWER HIGH RELAY and the 20A fuse. Less obvious are the RUN RELAY and the 10A fuse that protects the BCM and the controls, plus another 10A fuse that is hot at all times. All 5 are in the fuse box under the console on the right side. The blower relay will have 5 terminals, the run relay will have 4 (possibly with a 5th one trimmed flush with the housing). The 2 fuses (10A and 20A) get their power from the run relay, so if it goes out it'll take power from both fuses and keep the blower relay from being able to energize anything. Find all 3 fuses and check them.

The big black fuse you refer to is possibly a diode. If that's what it is then it's like a one-way valve for electricity and needs to be installed with the correct polarity or it'll stop the action as sure as a blown fuse. (There is a diode in the system but the schematic doesn't indicate that it is installed like a fuse, and it's too late and too dark to go out and check. Sorry.)

If you would like the schematics just ask.

I hope this helps.

Update. I took it to the dealer this morning and got a call an hour later. Apparently, it wasn't a fuse. It was the harness on the back side of the fan controls that came loose. They claimed a factory worker must not have secured it during assembly. Who knows, but it's working fine now.

At least it was a simple fix. Good to know that Unions prove to be a vital asset to this country. Paying premium dollar for some dolt to do a half assed job.

Thanks for the replies!

I can actually feel air now coming out on fan setting 1, which I never felt before. I always left it on setting 2 and adjusted the temperature accordingly.
