hi
i got a malibu LTZ 2010 and would like to make sure about a few things

one of the reasons which made go go with this car is the remote engine startup option which is indeed useful for us living here in the gulf (UAE) as it is extremly hot and humid, so i could turn on the car remotely and get to it cooled and nice!
is this a bad habit and unhealthy in any-way??
coz ill be turning off the engine while the AC is working, and as soon as it starts remotely the AC goes on immediately
am sure u got my point
what do you think??

also regarding the USB
how come the car couldnt read my mp3s (just for a test) off my 16GB FDD??

is there is a reason for that??

also will there be a navigation system soon with touch creen built into the dashboard soon for the malibu just like all other car even the toyota yaris and chevy aveo!!!??

thanks in advance

It shouldn't cause any health concerns beyond the obvious, that the engine's exhaust is not pure air. You can remotely start the car up to 2 times for 10 minutes each. When the engine is shut off Recirc will be reset to Outside air, so if you did not have the AC turned on it won't be on. Recirc automatically turns the AC on, regardless of other settings, plus if you have the mode knob set to Defog or the three detents below it, the AC will automatically turn on. In either case, the AC light will not be illuminated, even though it is engaged.

1. The remote start was designed for purposes of pre-cooling and pre-heating the interior. It will not harm the car at all. I use it all the time to cool the interior and it works great.

2. It states in the owner's manual that certain MP3 players won't work in the USB Port. Sometimes, it's just a matter of updating the MP3 software. See page 4-65 of the owner's manual. They have a whole section on the USB Port, MP3's, etc. If you have problems interfacing with the USB Port, I believe you can try the Aux Input Jack. That may work. Do you have the Bose Radio? I use a memory stick in the USB Port. It works very well.

3. The Malibu is due to be redesigned for the 2012 model year. It's possible they will add a Navigation Screen to that model. However, the Malibu comes with the Onstar Directions and Connections plan. This includes a Navigation type system where you get precise audible directions through the radio speakers and visual directions on the radio screen. I've used it several times and it works very well. And the good thing about it is a Navigation Screen is an expensive option. With the Malibu Navigation, it's built right into the cars Onstar System.

Enjoy the car. It's a great car.

I don't know if there are major differences in GPS units between here and the gulf, but I would personally recommend a Garmin unit. They are a bit on the pricey side if you are comparison shopping, but their features and reliability can't be beat.

I had a Garmin when automotive GPS units were first becoming popular about 6 years ago. It was great... pulled me right in the drive of where I needed to go every time. About 3 years ago I replaced it with a Microsoft unit. I got the Microsoft one b/c it says the road names out loud, which is a nice feature when navigating in city traffic... Garmin wanted an extra $100 for this feature, which I didn't feel like spending. Unfortunately the Microsoft unit is lacking in the accuracy department. It will get you to the correct block, but the exact location of a building may be off as much as a quarter mile. Next time I upgrade, it will be back to Garmin.

If you can't get your MP3 to work in the USB Port, you can try the Aux Input Port. I believe there are less compatibility issues with the Aux Port. You just need the 1/8 inch cable to try this port out. It states in the Owner's Manual on page 4-69 that "if you have an Ipod Model that is not supported by the USB Port, it can still be used by connecting it to the Auxiliary Input Jack". So you might want to give it a try. Are you getting an error message when you connect to the USB Port, or is it just not recognizing it?

Regarding the Onstar Navigation, you don't have the Onstar Buttons (located on the rearview mirror) in your Malibu? Or is the service just not activated?
The Onstar Navigation is a good alternative to a Navigation Screen. I've used it many times and it talks you through the directions and it even has visual cues on the radio dial. This is a GPS generated system (the same as a regular navigation system). As I said previously, factory installed Navigation Systems are nice, but they are generally a very expensive option (upwards of $3K). They usually include a premium stereo system as well which contributes to the cost. That's why the Onstar Navigation is a good alternative to a factory navigation system. But there are some very good aftermarket systems that work well if you don't have access to Onstar.

IMO, the Malibu is one of the best values out there. You get a lot of car for the money. The Onstar Navigation suits this car very well. You can upload routes through Mapquest, or you can have a representative upload directions for you. It has all the advantages of a regular Naviagation System except it doesn't have a map. But you do get visual cues (street name, which way to turn, etc.) right on the radio dial. The Navigation System with the screen that you're describing is too expensive for a car in this price range. It's a shame you don't have access to the Onstar System.

its actually a usb drive not an mp3 player, and also am not much into music i just want to test the feature, but anyways no its just a USB drive

beleive it or not but my mirror hasn't got BUT the auto-dim feature and the compass :S, i really hate this BS (excuse me) the dealer was a total (bad word) he gave me a whole big bunch of bs and lies, and beleive it or not also the car aint got bluetooth, and i was very frustrated coz of that, maybe ill just sell it one day!
cars arriving to the gulf are different in some aspects than the ones sold over there.
was told by the dealer car got sensors too (imagine that) but he was mistaken as well, also informed that phone system is to be enabled only by implementing some sort of converter (BS no.1) and i ended up knowing from him upon my recent visit tht they were going to install to me a silly external gps/phone system !

have a look at these, i think we would all like to see one for our malibu
