Hello.
I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu, 3.1L V6
I was driving and noticed that the temperature gauge and the fuel gauge are completely dead. There is no movement at all, even when I try to start the car. I checked every possible fuse that could be related to this problem. I have read also that it could be a ground connection problem in the hood, or a resistor behind the instrument panel?
I am weary about doing anything drastic and would appreciate any help for more clarification; Mechanics are my last resort.

Any help would be appreciated,
-Joe

The problem was that the electrical wiring kept causing the mini fuse to blow. My ac lights actually started flicking back and forth to different settings. Took it to an auto electrician. He cleaned up all the wires and now it works fine.

Took "The 914z"'s advice. Saved me. All of my instruments were stuck at 0. Fuel, Temp, Tach and Speedometer. Odometer was missing.

Not sure if turning the key was an important step or not but I did it anyway. Reconnect the batt and everything came back to life.

Just for more background, the other day I was spacing out and after pulling in my driveway, shut off the radio and then just turned the ignition off...while still in drive!! Yeah, not too bright. But when I then put it in Park and tried to exit I found the doors didn't auto unlock like they usually do. I didn't think much of it and have no idea if it's related somehow but two days later this issue popped up.

bottom line is disconnecting the batt seems to have cleared whatever cobwebs were in that tiny little Malibu brain. Thanks 914z
