Please bear with me as I am a "newbie" on this site. Just took my 07 in for service on another issue and service mgr called and said I needed to have my fuel filter changed and injectors cleaned. Car on has 17,000 miles on it and I do not drive it very hard (except on weekends).

Said this should have been done at 15, 000.

I change my filter at 20,000 miles and add a can of injector cleaner to my fuel once in a while. Car runs great. A lot of G.M. vehicles have the filter in the fuel tank. I don't know if the 07s are external or not. I haven't checked my car yet as I only have 8000 miles. I'm sure somebody here will enlighten us as there's a lot of knowledge on this site. Just don't rush into anything yet.

Thank you for the replys. I will double check my owner's manual. Had and 05 with less than 32k when traded and never done this for it. No problems with power on it.

All the new Malibu Z body, since 04, have only the in tank fuel filter.
That's right there is no fuel filter to service. You need to question why he is trying to get you to replace the non-existant fuel filter.

Could it have been the air filter he suggested you change?

Looked at the owner's manual last night. Makes no notation about replacing fuel filter and only mentions first service at 25,000 miles, so quiet a ways off from that.

Service Mgr, defintely said replace fuel filter not air. Had taken car in for warranty work on a steering issue and I think they may have wanted a way to get some money for a service out of me. Thinking about putting in injector cleaner with next fill-up.
