This morning going to work, I noticed my car's engine light was steady on.. but there were no noticeable symptoms. I had OnStar run a diagnostics test and they told me a million things.. but mostly along the line of sensors in the fuel tank measuring the pressure in the tank.. then they started talking about the evaporative system? They said it's nothing urgent as the engine light is only steady as opposed to flashing.. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue yet? My stupid lazy ass dealership can't take my car until Friday morning.. any ideas? I'm really pissed off.. these are new cars and all of us are having these issues.. it's no wonder why GM is in bankruptcy.. nobody will buy their junk.

Anyone want my car?

LOL TMoney i feel your pain man. I just hit 12 thousand miles on my bu and already i had to take it into the dealership about a million times. First for the clunking noise in the wheel well, then to the headlights staying on all the time and killing the car, then to the steering wheel not being aligned correctly and id had to turn it to the right in order to go straight, then my headlamps getting water inside the housing when it rained, then my trunk button on my door wasnt working. Crap like that makes me wish i got the new Nissan Maximas instead.......... on second thought, anyone want my car too?

On these new cars a loose gas cap will cause your problem also. Make sure the cap is tight. Are there any auto parts places around you that will check your trouble codes for free?

I always tighten the gas cap tightly. They had me pull over and double check and that didn't resolve the issue for them either.. I'm buying German next.. do you want my car, Kurly?

I had a Honda Accord 2000 SE with that common issue. The eng light kept turned on once a while. And every time I brought it in, all they had to do was to reset the code. The first time it happened, I was at 3000 miles. I was mad like you. Over the course, I just got used to it. Overall, it is not that bad if that is all the issues you have with the car.

Very likely could be a stuck evap system switch for the purge valve. Stuck open isn't so bad but can cost you lost fuel do to evaporation, but closed can be a bitch because when you fill the tank the air/gasses have nowhere to go and cause a backup of pressure to the nozzle and it's really hard to get gas in as the pump keeps turning off. You can usually jam them open/closed manually and disconnect the power so it stays open... or replace it. I don't know where this is located on the Malibu. usually, but not always by the evap. canister... wherever that is. Sometimes behind a wheel, sometimes by the trunk (under the car) sometimes accessed from in the trunk, sometimes the engine compartment. For what it's worth. This isn't a problem faced only by GM. I have had it happen on foreign cars, including a newer Nissan. Crap gets into these from the weather and messes them up. It's more an issue of the supplier and where they're located in the design of the car.
