Hi there,
I recently purchased a new 09 Malibu 2LT with the optional 18 inch alloy wheels which come fitted with Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires. Right when I first started driving the vehicle I noticed a slight vibration which started occurring at around 65 mph and seemed to intensify all the way to around 85-90 mph, at which point it began to disappear. I thought that it might just be a simple balancing issue so I gave my dealer a call and booked an appointment to get the tires checked out. To my amazement I was told that the tires were not out of balance, but were "completely junk" by the shop foreman, and he told me that they would have them sent out and get them road-force tested to see how much they are out of round.
The next morning I get a call from one of the service advisers telling me that all 4 of the tires had manufacturing defects and that they ordered for new tires for me. A couple of days go buy and I get a call saying that the tires were in, and that I had to again bring my car and leave it there for a whole day for the dealer to get them installed and roadforce balanced.
Today I got a call and was told that the car was ready, but that we might STILL need to get 2 of the 4 new tires changed again, because there is a very slight vibration still noticeable at highway speeds.
I told them that I could not leave the car, since I am going on a nice weekend roadtrip and would bring it back to them sometimes next week if the vibrations are not gone.
I am wondering if anyone else is having issues with these 225/50/18 Eagle LS2s, or if I am the only unlucky one getting the crappy out of round tires.
Also, does anyone know if these tires are purchased brand new from the manufacturer, or if they are rebuilt by various tire re-builders (such as Kaltire....)
Although I love my Malibu, and do not really mind the vibration that much, I do not want the problem to cause uneven tire wear which would eventually cause premature tire failure and cash out of my pocket
