Hi all. Just finally finished my Subwoofer and Amp install. Sorry for the bad pics.

Just installed a Bazooka 10" Dual Vented subwoofer and Sony XM1S mono amp. Also installed a Power Acoustik CapCell. Its basically a 400 amp Battery/Capacitor combo. Here is a link to a couple of pics. I was able to cheat and attach the Positive wire to the Pos battery post nut.

Got a pic of the battery connection? I have been wondering what the best way to do this is.
You mean like, attach a ring-terminal with a nut on top of the existing battery clamp nut? Does that wire have a fusable link near the battery end? You can tell I'm terrified of shorts.

I just took the nut off. Crimped a 5/16" ring terminal on my Amps Positive wire. Slipped it on. And tightened the nut.

For my Amp Input I used the Sonys Speaker Level input. With the Auto Sense feature. Turns itself on and off without a remote lead.

There is a 80 Amp fuse in the box next to the battery. Looks like a ANL style fuse. Since I didnt take it apart I cant confirm.

BTW, The Capcell is mounted to a piece of scrap wood under the carpet. It just floats a little bit.
Would you belive that I mounted this entire Sub and Amp with minimal damage to the Malibu. Ran the 4 gauge wire through an existing grommet.

Congrats. There's nothing like doing it yourself, with care and attention. The EPS motor, I was surprised the first time I saw the 80A fuse, too. One thing, the battery clamp nuts are supposed to be torqued to 44 lb-in (5 N·m), as in, you want it just snug.

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest adding a fusible link near the battery. The 4 gauge wire will carry enough current to melt itself if shorted. A 60A in-line fuse holder will probably do. Also, does the Capcell come with anything to cover the exposed posts?

So, how does it sound/vibe?:D

Thanks. I started it last week I think. Working 2 jobs makes it hard to find time. Then the Weather. It was raining for a couple of days. It took a little bit to finish.

As far as Sound, It provides mostly fill. Still need to adjust the Crossover, Gain, Boost feature.

Yes I have a 60 amp AGU fuse and holder near the battery. Cover for the Cap Cell posts? No it didnt come with one. Not sure if they make one.

Now I have a Problem. The Capcell started boiling over today. Now my car smells like rotten eggs. Had to disconnect the Ground lead on the Input to stop it. Has anyone used these devices before? I followed the directions. What they provided was for a Capacitor. Not the Capcell. My father thinks I need a device to control the charging to prevent this. Just e-mailed Power Acoustik. Will update.

Oh, man, that's tough. They must be using a lead acid battery. Somehow it got discharged beyond the point of no return. If you recharge a battery in such a state, you can boil it dry. I wonder how they designed around the problem.

Contacted Amazon. They are going to issue a Refund since its B/O. They sent me to Beach Audio to order another. They show they have 2 left now.

Guess I am lucky I caught it in time. Before it could have been disastorous.

That's for sure. It could've started a fire.

In the long run, you are probably better off with either a simple capacitor (cheaper) or a second battery (a sealed kind, you don't want H2 gas venting into the trunk). I think that capcell is just a gimmick.

The replacement arrived yesterday. Installed last night. So far all is good. I temporarily hooked up the Remote lead. It showed 12.6V. My next project is to add an Additional Ground wire to the body of the car. Short piece of 4 gauge should suffice.

Get a Big Capacitor. It will hep witht he Voltage fluctuations. My Escape had 2 RF Power amps. BD1000.1 and 851x (I forget exactly) 4 channel amp. About 1500 watts rms. And had a Pair of 2 Farad Caps.

One thing I am considerring. Running an Additional 4 gauge ground wire. From the Battery (Underhood) to the body. It wont hurt. Maybe help?? I am not an electrical engineer.

I used an amp with Speaker Level Input. The Sony XM1S also has an Auto Turn On/Off feature. Bazooka Tubes have this as well. It turns the amp on when it receives audio input. Tapped into the rear speaker leads.
