Just got my 2010 Malibu LTZ V6 a week ago. I got it in White Diamond Tricoat with Ebony/Brick interior. I traded in my 2008 Silverado for the gas mileage. I travel back and forth from MI to PA and IL to PA. I have been doing a little browsing on this site and have found lots of useful information so far. So, thanks in advance for all of the info have already found and the info I will later find.

So far I love it! The V6 makes a surprising amount of power! Good gas, runs great and handles well too. Only thing I haven't been happy with is how bad I can feel the potholes with the 18s but that's the terrible Michigan roads, not the car!

The V6 is nice, I kinda wish I had it but I am happy with the four cylinder. I'll agree with you on the Michigan roads. I go into Michigan a lot during the summer to a cabin that is off the beaten path:). It is rough on the roads there pretty much all the way. The factory Goodyear tires aren't the best for comfort in any condition though.

haha one good thing is my mom's boyfriend owns a shop so I get any tire for his price. I will be looking into a new tire very soon. I see you're from Hobart. With my previous co-op job, I used to live in Merrillville and a guy I worked with was from Hobart..small world after all!

Welcome to the site!

And congrats on the car. The only white I've ever liked is that pearly white like yours and a couple other cars I've ever seen it on.

And ditto on the V6! My '09 (after a muffler mod) got around 32-34 on the freeway using 89 octane, less on 87, same on 91 or higher. So I stick with 89. Love the fun with that V6! :)

I noticed you were talking about better mileage using the 89, I have the 4 cyc using the lesser octane getting about 28 on average.

Do you think stepping up in octane will improve the mileage?

I do only have 1100 miles on the car.

Do some research beyond just listening to me or anyone else.

In the manual for my V6 it says I can use 87, or for improved performance 89. On my '09 V6 I tried different octanes and calculated that premium (or high test, ethel, etc.) doesn't give better performance (butt dyno) or better mileage. So I saved the money and went back to using 89. I could tell a slight performance decrease with 87 (again, butt dyno) and a slight MPG decrease.

With my '11 V6 I just use the same pattern of thinking and use only 89.

For your I4, read the manual and see what it says.

Also, as you put a few more miles on you'll probably get the whole drivetrain worn in to your driving style so that it "settles into" your normal speed. I've driven cars that would run better at 70 than 60 due to previous owners running them for many miles at that speed. The gears set up a wear pattern that is unique to the speed and just run so much smoother than at other speeds. Has to do with harmonics and vibrations and such.
