I just bought a 2008 Malibu LTZ. The dealer put new batteries in both remotes but we couldn't get them to work. Tried all the usual stuff to reset them. It does have a remote start as well. I hate to take it to the dealership, there's got to be a way. Anyone know the trick?
Thanks a bunch!!:)

Sounds like they're not done with the sale! They sold you a car with remotes, let them get them working. If you really don't want to go to the dealer (who does?), check the owner's manual for programming instructions. Or call a locksmith who handles remotes. We did when I worked for one.

Just changing the batteries in your remotes won't change the frequency that they transmit with (kind of like changing the batteries in the remote for your T.V). Sounds like your dealer either gave you new remotes which your car hasn't learned yet, or the remotes are from another car. Either way I would take it back to them and get them to make it right.

I had a GM truck that I bought used. The dealer gave me a remote and said it wasn't for the truck but I could reprogram it. I found several different instructions on the internet and it took about 3 tries to find the one that worked, but I was able to get the remote mated to the truck. There are always quite a few steps that must be followed exactly. I just did a quick search and found about 4 sets of instruction which might work for you. As others have suggested you probably should insist that the seller get it working but if you want to do it yourself do a search and try all of the instructions and hopefully you'll find one that works. Good luck.
