I haven't been around in a while. A couple members here PMed me to ask where I disappeared to, so I figured I'd report back that I ended up buying an HHR SS. It was a tough choice between the HHR, Malibu and the G8, but a lot of it came down to the incentives I was able to get on the HHR and the overall sportiness of the SS model. The car is lightning fast with a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that produces 260 HP and 0-60 in less than 7 seconds. Yet I am averaging 27-28 MPG, with or without premium fuel.

I wouldn't rule out getting a Malibu in the future since I know it is a nice vehicle and I test drove a couple of them. It will be interesting to see how the Malibus hold up over time, both in reliability and the resale value.

Here's a couple pics of the new ride in case you are interested:

Welcome back Doug, and thanks for the update. Your HHR is hotI The wheels are very nice.

I hope you return from time to time to lets us know you're doing well.
I looked at the same red SS at the dealers when I was checking out the Bu's, those SS's are slick.:cool::cool:
Good luck with your new ride. It looks good, especially those wheels.
As I said in the PM before...awesome choice.

Did you get the stick or auto? I couldn't remember if you said that or not.

I wanted to get the stick, especially after test driving it, but with all the commuting I do, I just had to get the auto. And my wife refuses to drive a stick. Wait.....maybe that was my chance....... :D
Nice looking car. We checked into the HHR but I'm too tall and the way the roof and windows sloped down it was too tight for me, made me feel cramped.
My wife was the one that had issues with the HHR- I like the car. But, like you Jerkyking, she felt cramped. Of course, she says the Malibu's side / rear visibility is only slightly better, so she only drives it if she has to (bonus to me!! :D).

I'm 6' and I don't feel too cramped. It's not as wide as the Grand Prix, but still wide enough for two reasonably sized adults. But it is totally different going to a wagon from a sedan.

I have a co-worker who weighs around 300 pounds, and it was like trying to shoe horn him into the HHR.

The HHR is so far off the ground compared to the Malibu or GP. When I get back into the GP, I feel like I'm slinking down into a Solstice or Vette.

The HHR SS and the Cobalt SS both are really impressive vehicles, so if my wife hadn't complained we'd be driving the HHR here too (dealer had a black one when I bought the 'bu). I especially liked the performance vs. fuel economy factors- those cars get outstanding fuel economy while still being extremely quick and fun to drive! Congratulations on your beautiful car. :)
