Finally decided I want to crack open the headlights and retrofit projectors to the Malibu. I am going to get bi-xenon projectors and am going to keep the stock high beam bulb in. In the ideal situation I would like my high beams to use the projector and the stock halogen bulb, while the DRL would be just the HID bulb. I’m guessing I would need a special wiring harness to do the high beams the way I want? Could someone explain canbus to me? Do I need a canbus ballast or do I need a HID ballast with a canbus wiring harness add-on?

Just replace the low beams with HIDs and the high beams will be added when you switch to them, while the low beams stay on. With the bi-xenon, the HID cover will lift to reveal the additional light to make 4 actual high beams rather than a low beam plus a high beam.
