I have a 2005 Malibu LS (not classic) and the other night it POURED DOWN RAIN. Sadly my windows were down, and my car interior was drenched.

When I came out in the morning my high beams were on. I made sure everything else worked, which it did, than i pulled the multifunction switch and turned the lights off, but with in a minute they cut back on even if the car is off and the key is out of the ignition they still turn back on with in a minute of me making them go off, and they are on while the switch is off!

Does anyone have any ideas what I need to replace? I think the rain just got into the multifunction switch and ruined it, and I think I need to replace it but I'm no mechanic I'm not sure.

Is it the multifunction switch or is it something else do you think? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: High Beams Turn On By Itslef?

Magicbumm328,

Thank you for posting your situation on the forum. There are many members of this forum that are very mechanically inclined. Since, you have posted this thread, have you contacted your local Chevrolet dealership’s Service department for possible solutions to this?

Last week I cleaned my engine compartment with Simple Green and a garden hose. I was careful to put bags over the electrical boxes and alternator, and started the car and drove it around for 20 minutes to help get it dry.

However, I was helpfully informed by my neighbor at 5:30 the next morning that I had "left my lights on."

I went out to the Malibu and determined that it was specifically the DRL's that were on, despite the light switch being off and the key out of the ignition, etc. No tail lights. No combination of switches, ignition, starting and stopping the car, whatever, would make them go out.

I was getting ready to disconnect the battery cable when I had the idea to tap the fuse/relay box sharply with my finger. The lights went out.

I later pulled all the relays out, took them out of their shells, and cleaned them with my diamond contact file and DeOxit red. The relay that controls the DRL's had some kind of particle lodged in the contact gap.

So try tapping on the relay box, and then try swapping some relays around and see what happens.
