I've been trying to find a high output alternator for our cars. i've found some universal ones but a company called DC power (someone mentioned it in a thread a while back) has one thats a 270amp (160amp at idle) they told me its a straight bolt on and it works with our computers and there is no need to change the belt. they have a holiday special on it for $566 and a 2 year warranty .. its their top of the line model but it seems expensive.. i was just wondering if anyone had heard anything about there company and products or if its over priced? thanks

yeah thats the one. my mono amp uses around 50amps and the 4 channel i just ordered is 40amps so 270 is a little extra but i guess it never hurts to have a good buffer or be able to add on other stuff

I wouldn't even worry about it. I have a total of 1200 watts rms in my blazer work truck and I'm still running the original 72 amp alternator. I did the big 3 with 0/1 gauge and there is very little voltage drop or lights dimming.

$500 seems like a lot of money for a HO alt too. I can get a 220 amp one for my blazer for under $200 easily.

I had two 1000/1 and a 500/1 in my 2008 grand prix. I ran a stock alternator. I added a second optima battery and two 1farad caps. The car did fine with that set up. If you are concerned about the alternator, check out d&b electrical. I know a few people with trucks that run their high amp alternators and haven't had any problems.

id honestly go with either dc power or mechman if i was going to buy anything alternator wise. The db electric are just rewound factories. knowing that I can call rob or kyle at DC power or Matt at mechman and get any help I'd ever need is a selling point for me. Every system is different and I can tell that the alternator is not very stout from the factory in the malibus

Please do not use a capacitor.

You should be fine with 0/1 and then a couple red tops. I will have 1 red under the hood, and 2 in the back to start. My BTL 18" asks for 3,000 watts and then on top of that mymids and highs amp will be roughly 400

id love to see how you are going to pull that box off. its gonna be big and the trunk and back seat openings arent. eeeek. I wouldn't run taht many watts off the stock alternator especially if you have the electric power steering.
