So is it worth it for me to change the transmission on a 99 Malibu.
I had it done at 64K and it is now 92K miles.

What about using synthetic transmission fluid?

What are the tricks in doing it?

If you have a lift it is easy, if not it might be a PITA. There is a little filler plug on the side that you use. If you did it at 64K and you now have 92K I think you can surely wait.

Same way, gotta use the plug. Pop off the plug, it should be filled to the plug and drip out when it is removed.

Does the car need to be running when I check the level? I pulled the plug on the pass side and fluid came out. The car was cold and the pass side was jacked up?

In all honesty, there is no real way to check the fluid, the dumbest design on these cars. If you changed it at 64,xxx, I wouldn't even worry about changing it with the miles you have on it now.
