How hard to change transmission fluid on 99 Malibu?

So is it worth it for me to change the transmission on a 99 Malibu.
I had it done at 64K and it is now 92K miles.

What about using synthetic transmission fluid?

What are the tricks in doing it?

Ya I was thinking that. Had it done in Sept of 07.
How would I go about checking the level?

Does the car need to be running when I check the level? I pulled the plug on the pass side and fluid came out. The car was cold and the pass side was jacked up?
