It's not bad to do. Cadillacs have been this way for a while too, starting with the CTS I believe. Think of it this way, a person brought in their Cadillac DTS to the shop I work at with condensation in the headlamp and the HID bulb burnt out because of it. Bumper has to come off on them to get the headlight out, and the housing, bulb and ballast cost $850 alone. So, it could be a lot worse:D.

It's a lot of fasteners but it's easy. I tried for an hour and a half from under the car to get to the bolts for the driver's headlight. Finally gave up, took off the bumper skin. It took less than 15 minutes to get it off, change my bulbs (10-15 minutes both sides!), and then about 15 more minutes to put it back on. Just have a carpet, blanket, or grass nearby to set the cover on so you don't scratch it.

ok, I am deep into it now... Stuck on the 2 bolts just above the headlights, that attach the front bumper skin to the fenders. How the heck do you even reach those?!

Can you post some pics of where you're having the issue? Or describe it?

There are a lot of fasteners, most of them 10mm bolts. But there're also some on the fan shroud that need removed and some of those are just plastic rivets. Also, the top corners of the bumper cover snap into "latches" where they bend over the fenders just inside the engine compartment.

If this helps then that's good. If not, we're standing by...

The plastic fan shroud is removed... There appears to be two bolts between the bumper cover and the fender between the headlight and hood (attaching the two pieces) They seem impossible to reach. then there are two more bolts under the wheel well. I got one of them out. Cant reach the other one...

Does the following diagram help?

I have the same diagrams printed out, and they barely helped me. The easiest way to describe it if the pics don't help is to follow the edges of the bumper cover and remove fasteners as you come across them. The top part snaps out of its holders (one on each side under the hood), plus there are bolts and plastic rivets. I found all of them to be easily reached without having to reach into a hole. Most are 10mm, but up on top at the fan shroud they're bigger.

Yeah I know I said it before, but sometimes saying it differently makes more sense or seems to click.
