Of course, there's also the old crash test of a 2009 Malibu and a 1959 Bel Air.

Another reason people move to SUVs and CUVs. The sedans get hit higher because the average car is higher thus encouraging people to move to the higher cars so they feel safer. The problem I have is limiting the test to 37 mph. The side smashing driver is going at least 50 high on drugs while browsing TikTok on their iPhone 19 Max Ultra+.

And the Bel Air... the steering column is practically in the trunk.

People don't realize how important the collapsible steering column was. The steel spear killed a lot of drivers.
My ex FIL had a photo of an accident he was in in '50's, He got lucky, steering wheel was through the convertible top.
And that crash test also demonstrates why it's so much easier to change a headlight bulb in a '59 vs a '09. Or at least why you're better off with a hard bulb change.

One oddity in the video... in the detailed analysis at the end the IIHS guy says "today the institute is releasing new ratings from our updated side crash tests for 7 midsize cars. Of the 7 vehicles we tested only 1 received a good rating."

Camry Poor
Malibu Poor
Altima Poor
Accord Marginal
Jetta Acceptable
Sonata Acceptable
Outback Good

All are obviously sedans except the Outback. The Outback is a 8.7" ground clearance Small Sport Utility Vehicle according to the Department of Energy and NHTSA. Why does the IIHS see it as a midsize sedan? Good news: my F-150 and CX-5 do so well in the new test they get IIHS Top Safety Pick awards. Bad news: apparently my head falls off in the Malibu.

Subaru rocker panel absorbed more impact being higher. 2x it's not a low sedan but a CUV. The gave the Hyundai a freebie, did you see how much the steering wheel deflected? Talk about ''intrusion''.
