I just bought an 09 Malibu 2LT in June well June 30th to be exact, and I just saw this recall today online. The dealer said nothing about this recall when I bought the car and it seems to be driving just (I love it) but I have to say when ever I do park the car on any hill and put it into park I have noticed it roll just a bit as i release the breaks... now it does stop moving after just a few inches and I think it is due to the weight of the car 3500 pounds... Any ways do you think I should take it in and let them check it out anyways or just let it go I have only 2100KM on it that would be about 1600 miles I believe. I live in Canada...

OOO also on another note does any one know if the dealer would install tinted windows or do I need to go to a custom shop for that?

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 09V073000

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Details: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING 276,729 MY 2009 BUICK ENCLAVE, CHEVROLET COBALT, HHR, MALIBU, TRAVERSE, GMC ACADIA, PONTIAC G5, G6 AND SATURN AURA AND OUTLOOK PASSENGER VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLES SAFETY STANDARD 102, "TRANSMISSION SHIFT POSITION SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT", AND FMVSS 114, "THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION". ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGED. IF THE CLIP IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, THE SHIFT LEVER AND THE ACTUAL POSITION OF THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT MATCH. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVE COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER TO "PARK" AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT BE IN "PARK".

Consequence: THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AWAY AFTER THE DRIVER HAS EXITED THE VEHICLE, RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND ENSURE THAT THE SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP IS FULLY ENGAGED. IN THE EVENT THAT THE CLIP DOES NOT ENGAGE, THE SHIFT CABLE WILL BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 24, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463, PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668 AND SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876 OR AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Your car moving on a hill in park is normal. Call your dealer and ask them if you car needs the recall or not. They'll ask for your vin and be able to determine based on that.

The dealership will not tint your windows, they will source it out. Granted there may be a very few dealers who have a tint shop in house, but I highly doubt it. They may say they will tint your windows, but in all actuality they will have a tint shop pick up your car (or work on it there) and tint it.

I believe the recall has more to do with you being able to visually tell what gear the car is in than it does with it slipping out of gear once in park. It should roll a little when parking on a hill. Using your parking brake is advised for that very reason as when the car rolls back/forward on the hill it is putting more pressure on that gear and it may be very hard to get it out of park.

I just had recall work done on mine today. This particular recall only affects the 4spd tranny. It is only for the shift indicator. Apparently the indicator linkage/cable/whatever can loosen, and the light may not read correctly vs what gear the vehicle is in. I was told it would not affect the shifting in any way. They ordered a clip, and installed it this afternoon. and as mentioned always use your parking break on a hill (Before you let off the brake pedal)...

Thanks for this, I was under the impression it was for the 6 speed.

It can't be just for the 4 speed transmissions because GM recalled almost half of there line up of cars that where using 6 speed autos like the Aura and a few of the SUVs

It is for the 6 spd as well. My dealer checked and mine needed the recall repair. After three tries they got it right :(

I received the recall about a month ago(6-speed). A visual inspection was all it took for me. I was in and out in 20 min.

If you recently bought yours, I would assume the dealer would have already done the inspection. However, we all know what assuming does.

You should use the park brake on hills, in addition to putting it in park.
